Abstract: A system for electromagnetically harvesting waste kinetic energy. A wound electrical coil having a hollow bobbin abuts an opening in ring magnet. An actuator plunger extends through the opening. Fixed magnets are located at the opposite end of the bobbin. Floating magnets are disposed within the bobbin, arranged with their magnetic field opposing that of the fixed magnets but not that of the ring magnet. Axial force on the actuator plunger moves the floating magnets toward the fixed magnets. When the actuator is released, the floating magnets are repelled by the fixed magnets and attracted by the ring magnet, causing the floating magnets to pass rapidly through the coil, thereby generating an electric current in the coil. In one application, the harvester is actuated by a keeper in a door latch release mechanism. In a second application the harvester is actuated by a latch bolt of a lock set.

Abstract: A wind power plant includes a wind turbine generator and an electrical storage device that supply electric power to a utility grid. A wind-turbine controller performs for the wind turbine generator an acoustic-noise suppression operation in which the rotational speed of blades is controlled in order to suppress acoustic noise, and also calculates a reduction in output power that is the difference in output power between the normal output power and the acoustic-noise-suppression output power. An electrical-storage-device controller causes the electrical storage device to be charged or discharged, based on the reduction in output power, the acoustic-noise-suppression output power, and the grid-demanded output power demanded from the utility grid. Therefore, the wind power plant can supply, to the utility grid, the electric power demanded from the utility grid even when the operation of suppressing the occurrence of acoustic noise is performed for the wind turbine generator.

Abstract: A system for converting wind energy to electrical energy for use in a building. Conduits positioned within the building have end portions open to exterior wall surfaces of the building. Wind deflector mechanisms positioned at the end portions of the conduits direct wind from the exterior wall surfaces of the building into the conduits and allow wind to exit the conduits. Wind flowing through the conduits impacts venturi elements and wind collector devices positioned within the conduits. The venturi elements are pivotally mounted within the conduits to accelerate the wind towards the wind collectors regardless of in which direction the wind flows, thereby causing the wind collectors operatively associated with a wind turbine device to rotate. In an embodiment, the electrical power is generated by the rotational motion of a downhole tool and enables the charging or recharging of batteries in downhole sensors or sensors in other remote locations, such as in a water column. Magnets are arranged in a manner to provide a rotating magnetic field and are then coupled or attached to the rod/rotor assembly in close proximity to the rotating tool. By utilizing the rotational energy of a tool that uses or causes rotational motion during operations in conjunction with the windings of an electrical conductor and power conditioning circuitry, the rotation of the magnets induces an electrical current in the electrical conductor and power conditioning circuitry that can then be used to directly charge a tool and/or to instead charge or recharge the batteries that power the downhole or below-surface sensor.

Abstract: The wind turbine generator system utilizes environmental wind to produce electricity through wind-driven rotation of a turbine generator. The system includes a housing having upper and lower portions and a main open cover mounted thereon. The main open cover is configured to direct wind through an opening formed through the upper portion and into an interior thereof. A main turbine is rotatably mounted within the upper portion, with the environmental wind directed by the main open cover driving rotation thereof. The main turbine has a central aperture formed therethrough, with rotation of the main turbine driving air flow downwardly therethrough. A secondary turbine is rotatably mounted in the lower portion of the housing, with the secondary turbine being driven to rotate by the downwardly driven air generated by the main turbine. The secondary turbine partially drives rotation of the main turbine. An electrical generator is linked to the main turbine.

Abstract: The invention relates to an electric energy generation system based on the use of static weight. The static weight can be placed, pushed, or rolled onto a platform or shelf, controlled in its vertical motion downward, and connected to an electric generator, which transforms the vertical linear motion to electricity. A gearing system, hydraulic transmission, fluid coupling, or torque convertor to convert linear to rotational motion is employed as necessary, thereby turning the generator. A return means, of various forms, allows the platform or shelf to return to original position, and provides an opportunity to make use of vertical motion once again for energy production. A flywheel may be used to provide more sustained and smoother power over a longer period, and other amplification means may be used to increase duration or amount of power, as well as conversion means to provide electricity in usable form.

The power system may have an engine with a desired operating speed range, and a generator mechanically driven by the engine to produce electrical power directed to an external load. The power system may also have a power storage device associated with at least one of the engine and the generator, and a controller in communication with the engine and the power storage device. The controller may be configured to determine a speed of the engine deviating from the desired operating range, and to activate the power storage device to absorb or supplement at least a portion of the electrical power directed to the external load based on the determination.

Abstract: Specially designed masts, rectangular sails that slide inside frames and can be folded or wrapped, and directing the wind around the system by using a wind deflector and a fin, are used to produce power from the wind, masts will rotate around an oval wall in a circle and drive chains that will turn wheels that in turn drive generators, fin and wind deflector are used to position the system, all parts of the system are installed on one rotating platform, the system is mobile, simple design, made of low cost material, can look like a beautiful sail ship and environmentally friendly, so less people will object to it, multiple small generators that can go on or off-line automatically, are preferred over one large generator, to control the production and speed of the system, generators can physically be added or taken out of the system without halting it.

Abstract: A user-powered apparatus, system, and method of providing a pedestrian with information is disclosed. The present invention harvests energy created by a moving pedestrian and takes the harvested energy and uses it to recharge an energy storage device that is embedded in the same footwear. Also built into the footwear may be a microcontroller and sensor, and a transmitter/receiver mechanism by which signals may be transmitted to and received from a wrist watch, iPodĀ®, cell phone and/or any similar portable device on the pedestrian. The footwear may be capable of receiving signals transmitted by the portable device or GPS satellite. The GPS satellite may provide information about the geographical location of the pedestrian. Since the energy storage device may be flexible, it can survive on footwear that gets flexed a significant amount.
