Latch-spindle Catches Patents (Class 292/359)
  • Patent number: 5433495
Abstract: A two-way door latch that is swingable relative to a door jamb, the door having an opening adjacent its edge whose opposing ends are covered by a pair of escutcheons. Rotatably mounted on each escutcheon is a knob having a short shaft that extends into the escutcheon and terminates in a cam, the knobs being rotable about a common axis. One of the cams is spring-biased and so shaped as to maintain the related knob at a rest position, whereby when the knob is turned in either direction to unlatch the door, when released the knob will be returned to its rest position. The cams are bridged by a pair of pins that are offset with respect to the common axis, and when a knob is turned, the pins then travel in a circle concentric with the axis.

  • Patent number: 5133265
Abstract: A mobile carriage is movable along rails by manual rotation of a handwheel. The mobile carriage comprises a visual indicator that instantly informs a person of the locked or unlocked status of the mobile carriage. The visual indicator comprises at least one ridge on the handwheel and another ridge on a locking knob. The locking knob is loosely captured between the handwheel and a hub for selective rotation relative thereto between first and second end positions. The locking knob has a cam that slides a pin within the hub between first and second positions whereat the pin disengages and engages a stationary lock plate. When the locking knob is manually rotated to the first end position thereof, the pin disengages from the lock plate to enable handwheel rotation and carriage movement. Manually rotating the locking knob to the second end position thereof causes the pin to engage the lock plate and prevent handwheel rotation and carriage movement.

  • Patent number: 4941697
Abstract: An over-loading idling lock set having an actuating shaft connected to an indoor lock core and an outdoor sealing block wherein the sealing block is connected to an outdoor lock core, and plural ball members pushed by corresponding restricting springs are disposed between the sealing block and outdoor lock core whereby the ball members are partially extended into corresponding restricting holes formed on the sealing block to associate the outdoor lock core with the sealing block. By means of turning an indoor or outdoor handle, the actuating shaft is rotated to open the lock set. When closing the lock set, a controlling bolt is inserted into a longitudinal groove formed on the indoor lock core to lock the same and thus when turning the outdoor handle, the ball members are separate from the restricting holes due to insufficient spring force. Therefore, the outdoor handle can only idle without opening the lock set.

The return spring applies a torque which varies directly with the angular displacement of the shaft from the center position over a predetermined range corresponding to the full operating range of the shaft. The recentering spring means applies a torque which varies inversely with the angular displacement of the shaft over the range of displacement. The maximum torque exerted by the recentering spring means is not substantially greater than the maximum torque exerted by the return spring. The torque exerted by each of the springs is a substantially linear function of angular displacement whereby a substantially uniform value of torque tends to return the shaft to its center position and thereby provides accurate recentering when the shaft is released.

  • Patent number: 4055361
Abstract: A thumb-knob assembly for preventing a mortise lock from being opened from the outside even by a proper key. My thumb-knob assembly may be the one shipped with the mortise lock or may be bought separately and substituted for the thumb-knob assembly that was originally installed. It affords better protection than an extra bolt or a night-latch without their installation cost, is superior in appearance, and its installed cost should be less.

  • Patent number: 3967846
Abstract: A door lock has a frame in which a knob spindle is mounted for rotation about an axis. The spindle can be prevented from rotation on the frame by a bar movable along the axis into and out of a position in which the bar engages both the frame and a slot in the spindle. The bar is moved by a spring and by a manual button mounted in an inside knob on the frame. The spindle can also be prevented from rotation on the frame by a pin radially movable on the frame into and out of a position in which the pin engages both the frame and the spindle slot. The pin is moved by a spring and by an arcuate electromagnet disposed coaxially of the spindle and having a polepiece in position to influence an armature on the pin. The customary key-operated lock is installed in an outer knob fastened onto the spindle.

  • Patent number: 3954292
Abstract: When turned to a locked position, a turn button causes the outside operating lever of the latch to be held against rotation so as to lock the door against entry from the outside. Turning of the inside operating lever in either direction to open the door causes the turn button to return automatically to its unlocked position to prevent inadvertent locking of the door. Automatic return of the locking button is effected through the coaction of a spring-loaded pin on the inside lever with a pair of shoulders on the inner face of the turn button.

  • Patent number: 3951444
Abstract: A retainer cylinder is rotatably mounted in the bore of a housing cylinder and selectively latched against rotation by means of a resilient latching assembly. The housing cylinder is formed with a longitudinally extending groove and a corresponding recess is formed in the retainer cylinder. In one arrangement, the resilient latching assembly comprises a flat spring captured in the housing cylinder groove and having an intermediate portion resiliently urged into the retainer cylinder recess. A dog slidably mounted in the recess is cammed by a key to force the spring element from the recess and allow rotation of the retainer cylinder. In a second arrangement, the same housing cylinder allows for handle operation of a retainer cylinder wherein the latching assembly comprises a cam pin resiliently mounted in the retainer cylinder recess.

  • Patent number: RE29897
Abstract: A latching device for luggage or the like cooperable with a hasp is constted so that a manually operable latch member is pivotally connected to a projection on a mounting plate for allowing the latch member to be rotated with respect thereto. A leaf spring biases the latch member into contact with the top surface of the projection. The projection includes stop surfaces for limiting rotation of the latch member in a first direction to a closed position wherein the latch member substantially overlies the mounting plate and for limiting rotation of the latch member in the opposite direction to an open position wherein the latch member is substantially perpendicular to the mounting plate. The leaf spring also biases a detent ball into contact with a surface of the latch member for releasably maintaining the latch member in the open and closed positions.
