Flexible Patents (Class 292/38)
  • Patent number: 5533798
Abstract: A lock system for casegoods, such as desks, cabinets, storage units, wardrobes and the like, includes an elongated, flexible tape or lock member having a plurality of spaced lock studs positioned thereon. A lock actuator moves the tape between unlocked and locked positions. Catches are mounted on the drawers, doors and the like of the article. When the flexible tape is moved to the locked position, the lock studs block or prevent opening movement of the drawers or doors due to contact with the catches. The flexible tape is routed through channels or other mounting structure formed in panels and tops of the article of furniture. An interlock mechanism, which may be integrated with the lock member, includes a lock lever, a cable attached to the lock lever and a plurality of interlock cams. Control members on the drawers rotate the cams to take up the cable causing the interlock lever to pivot and engage the lock member, thereby moving the lock member to a locked position.

  • Patent number: 5401066
Abstract: A fluid flow connector with a structure for preventing over-torquing of the coupler and the nipple during engagement and furthermore, preventing inadvertent disengagement of the coupler from the nipple which might otherwise occur upon oppositely directed rotation of an outer shell of the coupler. The nipple is provided with a shoulder which, upon full engagement between the coupler and the nipple to a desired level of torque between the threads thereof, abuts the end of the outer shell. Subsequent further rotation of the shell causes relative travel between the outer shell and the coupler threads until the dowel disengages the first set of teeth whereby any further rotation of the outer shell will not impart a rotational force or torque to the coupler threads.

  • Patent number: 5394718
Abstract: A lock assembly has a main lock housing, a bolt movable in the housing between a locked position projecting from the housing and an unlocked position largely recessed in the housing, a key-operable mechanism having an actuator movable by turning of an appropriately bitted key in the mechanism, and a linkage between the actuator and the bolt for displacing the bolt by means of the actuator. A secondary housing is provided adjacent the lock housing and an actuator element coupled and movable with the linkage extends from the lock housing to the secondary housing. The element moves in one direction relative to the secondary housing on movement of the bolt from the locked to the unlocked position and in the opposite direction on movement of the bolt from the unlocked to the locked position. An electric motor on the secondary housing connected to the element is energizable for displacing same in both directions and thereby also displacing the bolt between its positions.

  • Patent number: 5076015
Abstract: The present invention relates to a device for the shutter-like and tilt-down opening, with respect to a fixed frame, of a window or door-window composed of an upper cross-member and a lower cross-member connected by a pair of uprights on one of which handle is rotatably associated. The peculiarity of the device consists in the fact that it compirses box, arranged on one of the uprights, which is provided with means, actuated by the handle, for tensioning at least one traction element such as cable. This at least one traction element can be advantageously constituted by a first and second cable which actuate a plurality of pins for the temporary closure of the window onto the fixed frame and for coupling to an upper hinge for shutter-like or tilt-down opening. The device furthermore comprises a lower spherical hinge which is provided with a friction action for shutter-like opening and with an articulation action for tilt-down opening.

  • Patent number: 5072464
Abstract: A crib dropside is provided which includes a double-acting latch mechanism for releasing the dropside from a locked position. The dropside includes an upper rail having a groove extending within the front surface thereof. The grove extends for the entire length of the rail. A pair of spring-loaded locking pins are mounted to each end of the rail. A cable extends within the groove and is secured at each end to the locking pins, the center of the cable being secured to a slide member within the latch mechanism. The dropside is slidably mounted to a pair of tracks, the tracks including openings for receiving the locking pins. Actuation of the latch mechanism causes the pins to be withdrawn from the openings. Additional openings are provided within the tracks for allowing a mattress support and crib stabilizer bars to be mounted thereto.

  • Patent number: 4932691
Abstract: An operating mechanism for an espagnolette fastening arrangement, particularly for a window frame of extruded sections, comprises a casing (21) within which are disposed two sliders (22, 23) and a toothed drive belt (24) entrained around rollers (25), opposite runs of the belt between the rollers engaging rack formations (27, 28) on the sliders. The sliders are connected to espagnolette bars (34, 39) and one of the sliders (23) is moveable by a cranked rod (18) operable by a handle (12). The use of the toothed belt as a means of driving the sliders in opposite directions simultaneously enables the mechanism to be of compact dimensions.

  • Patent number: 4884831
Abstract: One or more spring lock devices are included at the inner sides of a conventional garage door positioned to engage with the side door frame. The spring locks are actuated to the open position by operative connection, usually through tension lines to a garage door drive mechanism, which is connected to the garage door through a lost motion mechanism so that initial movement of the drive mechanism moves the spring lock devices and opens them before the garage door mechanism moves the garage door. For closing, the spring lock devices can be of the wedge striker type which will close and lock with the closing motion of the garage door or of a straight pin type, in which case the door is adjusted so that its balance mechanisms always biases the door toward the closed position when the door is near its closed position.

  • Patent number: 4461160
Abstract: A lock mechanism is disclosed for use with sliding, swinging or overhead doors. A receiver is affixed to the door frame and a bolt, linkage and handle are affixed to the door. The linkage allows the bolt to engage the receiver by sliding along the receiver until it becomes latched so that the door may be closed though the handle is locked. Pulling upon the unlocked handle retracts the bolt from the receiver and also causes the door to start opening.

  • Patent number: 4395892
Abstract: A hardware assembly, which is readily adaptable to luggage cases of widely varying constructions, dimensions and configurations, includes a housing which may be positioned within cut-outs in adjacent edges of the side walls of the luggage case, and be mounted on the exterior of one side wall. The housing contains slideable latches for engaging associated hasps mounted on the exterior of the other side wall, and a flexible member connecting the latches to a slideable actuator mounted on the housing for opening the case. The coupling between the latches and the flexible member allows the latches to move to unlatching position independently of the actuator to facilitate closing and latching of the case when the parts are brought together. The actuator is U-shaped and supported for transverse movement on the housing by a rocker located within the housing.

  • Patent number: 4109494
Abstract: The invention involves a mechanism for simultaneously retracting two separate latch bolts which have previously been extended by their individual separate mechanisms. The individual mechanisms comprise a substantially conventional knob actuated latch bolt, and what is commonly called a locking dead bolt. There is a lever arm attached to the knob spindle and a bell crank arm on a thumb turn shaft of the dead bolt. A flexible strip anchored at one end to the free end of the lever arm projects slidably through a swivelling sleeve on the free end of the bell crank. By providing a stop at the extremity of the strip by rotation of the knob spindle and its lever arm the bell crank is induced to rotate and withdraw the dead bolt to unlocked position, at the same time that the latch bolt is withdrawn to open the door. Conversely, when the dead bolt only is withdrawn, by rotation of the thumb turn shaft merely to unlock the door, the strip will slide through the swivelling sleeve.

  • Patent number: 4012066
Abstract: A lock assembly for automatically dead bolting a closure to a closure frame when the ambient temperature is raised above a predetermined temperature by fire comprises a striker plate, which defines a bolt hole, mounted on the closure frame. A cooperating latching mechanism, installed in the closure, includes a housing and a bolt assembly mounted in housing for reciprocal movement to and from a latched position projecting into the striker plate bolt hole and for movement to an extreme dead bolted position projecting further into the bolt hole beyond the latched position. A stop pin mechanism associated with the bolt assembly prevents the bolt assembly from being moved out of the dead bolted position once this position is assumed and a spring urges the bolt toward the dead bolted position.
