Patent number: 4869537Abstract: Mechanism for pulling an opened compartment panel closed and engaging a latch with a striker includes a slide member mounted on the body for horizontal reciprocating movement and having a cam slot which receives a cam follower carried by the striker so that horizontal reciprocating movement of the slide member vertically reciprocates the striker. The cam slot includes an inclined cam surface effective to provide the vertical reciprocation of the striker. The cam slot also includes a horizontal dwell surface at the end of the inclined surface to define the retracted position of the striker in which the compartment panel is closed so that the load imposed on the compartment lid in the direction to pry open the compartment panel is prevented from urging the slide member in a direction which would permit the striker to extend.Type: GrantFiled: January 14, 1988Date of Patent: September 26, 1989Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventors: David E. Patent number: 4702094Abstract: A solenoid activated locking system primarily for hood and trunk manual release systems for vehicles. The solenoid is connected to a cable tied to the latch of a conventional hood or trunk release system. Unless activated, the solenoid prevents manual release of the trunk or hood lids to prevent access to the truck or engine compartment to someone who has obtained unauthorized access to the vehicle interior. The solenoid is automatically actuated for a preselected period of time whenever the ignition is turned on or off or when a reset switch is closed for more than a minimum and less than a maximum period of time. In addition, the solenoid is activated automatically during closure of the hood or trunk lid to permit secure engagement of the corresponding latch mechanism. An emergency release cable, hidden in an obscure location external of the vehicle, is provided for enabling manual release of the solenoid in the event of vehicle battery failure or other otherwise disabling event.Type: GrantFiled: November 27, 1985Date of Patent: October 27, 1987Assignee: Crimestopper Security Products, Inc.Inventor: Larry O. Patent number: 4603894Abstract: The door lock assembly, the inside door handle, the power lock actuator, the various bell crank levers, and the connecting rods acting therebetween are assembled upon a module frame off the assembly line to enable construction of a preassembled and tested door lock and handle module for subsequent mounting on the vehicle door. The module frame has a longitudinal extending stiffening flange along the upper margin thereof. A molded plastic cover fits over the assembled module and cooperates with the module frame and its stiffening flange to enclose the door lock rod in order to prevent unauthorized entry into the vehicle body by the insertion of a tool between the door outer panel and the window glass to actuate the door lock rod.Type: GrantFiled: March 22, 1984Date of Patent: August 5, 1986Assignee: General Motors CorporationInventor: Joseph M. Patent number: 4525004Abstract: Disclosed is a lid lock structure for a hinged lid of a recess which is made in a car body to conceal a fueling port. The lid lock structure includes a latch housing containing a bolt and having a plate spring at its head. The bolt catches a catch leg extending from the back of the hinged lid when closed, whereas the plate spring is yieldingly bent to constantly apply pressure to the lid while it is closed. When the bolt is retracted, the lid is unlatched to snap open. The built-in spring structure facilitates assembly work.Type: GrantFiled: February 11, 1983Date of Patent: June 25, 1985Assignee: Nifco Inc.Inventor: Toshie Tanaka

Patent number: 4519227Abstract: The central locking installation for motor vehicle door locks blocks the locking element of the door lock by means of an additional, separately controllable blocking member. The locking element and the blocking member are driven by separate electrical drives which are connected into mutually parallel-connected current paths of one common drive current circuit. The drive direction of the two drives is controlled by common switches of a pole-changing circuit which reverses the current direction. Into the current path of the drives of the blocking member there is connected a control switch by way of which these drives can be switched on selectively. In the unlocking direction and the unblocking or releasing direction a time control system controllable by means of the door key in the unlocking of the door switches on the drives of the locking element and of the blocking member simultaneously. In the locking of the door lock only the drive of the locking element is switched on in its locking direction.Type: GrantFiled: March 23, 1983Date of Patent: May 28, 1985Assignee: Fichtel & Sachs AGInventors: Gerhard Dumbser, Manfred Lutz, Rainer Fey, Kurt Weiss

Patent number: 4342209Abstract: A central vehicle door-lock system has several door latches each including a detent movable between a lock position securing the door closed and an unlock position allowing the door to be opened by means of a mechanism inside the door latch. Each of these latches is associated with a servoactuator having an actuator that is engaged via this mechanism with the respective detent and that is in turn moved by an operator. This operator, therefore, can move the actuator and with it the latch detent between lock and unlock positions, and the operator itself is movable by a servomotor into an antitheft position. A lock pawl on the actuator can, in the lock position of the actuator and in the antitheft position of the operator, move from a freeing position permitting displacement of the actuator from the lock to the unlock position into a blocking position preventing such displacement to lock up the entire latch.Type: GrantFiled: March 24, 1980Date of Patent: August 3, 1982Assignee: Kiekert GmbH & Co. Patent number: 4312197Abstract: A device comprising a lock with a rotating knob and incorporated bolt, capable of being blocked by the release of the rotating-knob unlocking control. The release results from the shifting of a blocking lever 13, 113 of the plate of the lock. The lever is operated by either a remote-controlled driving organ, or directly by the cylinder bolt. The blocking lever can, in addition, be inhibited by a locking lever 55, 155 operated from inside the trunk so as to neutralize the remote control.Type: GrantFiled: December 11, 1979Date of Patent: January 26, 1982Assignee: Regie Nationale des Usines RenaultInventors: Jean-Pierre Carrion, Christian Le Buhan

Patent number: 4081191Abstract: A lock assembly for locking or unlocking the door of a truck or trailer body from a handle located inside the cab of the tractor. The tractor cab is fitted with a pivotable handle lever mounted on about fixed rachet gear engaged by a pivotable tooth on the handle lever, with the handle lever linked by a lock rod that extends under the floor of an attached truck or trailer body to a latch fixed on the door of the truck or trailer body. The lock rod may be fitted with coupling means for separation into a tractor section and a trailer section for use when the trailer section is detached from the tractor. The door latch is in the form of a bolt slidable axially through an eye member fixed to the truck door or alternately the bolt is bent at an angle to rotate about a fixed bracket on the door, with the bolt coupled to the lock rod by helical-slotted collar that translates reciprocal axial motion of the lock rod into rotary motion of the bolt.Type: GrantFiled: March 1, 1976Date of Patent: March 28, 1978Inventor: Matthew Capozello
