Plastic Latch Parts Patents (Class 292/DIG38)
  • Patent number: 4756564
Abstract: A latching member is formed with a recess in which a striker is to be fitted. Each of opposite wall surfaces at the entrance of the recess comprises an elastic member to prevent the occurrence of a large noise upon hit of the striker against those wall surfaces. The recess has its deep part formed to have a width not larger than the diameter of the striker, thereby preventing swing movement of the latching member relative to the striker. Further, a fully locking tooth formed on the latching member has an engagement surface to be engaged with a pawl, the engagement surface being provided with a noiseles member to prevent the occurrence of a large noise upon abutment of the fully locking tooth with the pawl.

  • Patent number: 4733892
Abstract: A keeper according to the invention is used in combination with a motor-vehicle door post and with a latch fork displaceable in an inward direction toward and an outward direction away from the post on closing and opening of the respective door. The keeper has a U-section sheet-metal frame having flanges secured to the door post and formed with a throughgoing passage open transversely of the directions and having relative to the directions an outer edge. An incompressible but elastomeric damper insert received in the frame has a throughgoing passage aligned with that of the frame, engages inward and outward laterally past the frame, and is formed with a groove opening inward at the outer frame-passage edge. A hard metallic abutment of mushroom section has a central outwardly flared stem snugly received in the groove and tabs outwardly overreaching and overlying the outer frame-passage edge and defining an inwardly convex surface.

  • Patent number: 4676081
Abstract: The panel lock comprises an elongated housing having resilient wedging means at each end to secure the panel lock in place in a recess in a door, panel or like member. Formed integrally with the elongated housing are a lock housing with a cylindrical opening, a central recessed portion, and a bolt housing. A lock is rotatably secured in the opening in the lock housing. A bolt is slidably positioned in the bolt housing. A spring is operative between the bolt and the bolt housing to bias the bolt outwardly from the bolt housing into locking position. An actuator is slidably secured to the elongated housing and is adapted to engage the bolt. When the actuator is moved in one direction, the bolt is biased outwardly to a latching position by the spring. Movement of the actuator in an opposite direction will move the bolt against the bias of the spring to a release position. Cam means are secured to the lock and are rotatable therewith to lock or to release the actuator.

  • Patent number: 4669287
Abstract: A lock assembly has a lock barrel which slides in a housing so that a finger at the end of the barrel can release a latch. The lock barrel is prevented from sliding when the barrel is locked, by engagement of the finger with a blocking plate, but the barrel is freed when the key is inserted and turned. The finger is made so that it shortens if excessive axial force is applied while the barrel is locked. This shortening may be effected by including an easily rupturable connection between different sections of the finger. When the finger shortens, the connection ruptures and prevents the finger from getting near the latch to release it. Once the connection has ruptured, further movement of the barrel into the housing will bring the barrel into contact with the outer periphery of the blocking plate which is well supported.

The fastening device consists of two components, one providing a tongue and the other a fulcrum against which the tongue bears in the fastened condition of the device. The arrangement of the components ensures that in passing between the unfastened and fastened conditions, the tongue is put into compression, the compressive stress in which acquires a value in a center-point position which is greater than that subsisting in the fastened condition of the device. Thus fastening and unfastening of the device involves moving the tongue through this center-point position.

Abstract: A latch assembly which releases when a predetermined force is applied to it includes a latch and a handle pivotally mounted on a closure member for pivoting movement about parallel axes. The handle includes a projection which extends into a groove in the latch, and the projection and groove lie generally along the line which joins the pivot axes. When the handle is pivoted, the projection pivots the latch. The latch includes a pivot portion, a latching portion, and a connecting portion which connects the latching portion to the pivot portion. The connecting portion is flexible and permits the latching portion to release if a predetermined force is applied to the latching portion.

  • Patent number: 4501378
Abstract: A latch unit for releasably securing a plastic lid to a tank-like container or for releasably securing another covering over the container. The container may be the tank of an electric vacuum cleaner. There are a plurality of the latch units spaced along the edge of the lid or covering and engageable with a bead around the open end of the tank. Each latch unit includes a cage at the edge of the lid or of the covering and includes a latch element molded of resilient plastic material. One end of the latch element protrudes from the cage and is hand engageable for moving the element between releasing and holding positions. The other end of the element is provided with a hook that engages a cage formation to form a pivot for the element. A normally bowed intermediate section of the element connects opposite ends of the element, and is stressed to provide a biasing force that holds the element mounted to the cage.

  • Patent number: 4491353
Abstract: A reciprocatory device in the form of a roller door catch has a reciprocatory plunger slidable in a fixed tubular housing and retained therein by an adjustment member. The plunger is urged to a normal resting position by a compression return spring. At its outer end the plunger rotatably supports a catch roller engageable with a recessed keeper mounted on the door frame. The adjustment member has a stem portion which projects into a blind bore at the inner end of the plunger, and this stem has radial stub projections which engage with a helical rib providing a screw thread within said bore, with a clearance in the axial direction approximating to the normal range of plunger reciprocation on door opening and closure. The adjustment member has a head portion with a frusto-conical clutch face which frictionally engages a mating clutch face at the inner end of the housing.

Each of the engaging means comprises a curved lock arm having a projection to be received in a recess made in a cartridge body, and is connected to the end of the lid body at its one end. A plurality of leaf spring elements constitute a zigzag-shaped spring member which is interposed between one end of the lid body and the lock arm. Some of the leaf spring elements have thin and thick portions so that stress applied thereto will be dispersed. In one embodiment, the dimension of the thick portions is selected so that the thick portion abuts against an adjacent leaf spring when the zigzag-shaped spring member is compressed.
