  • Patent number: 5755632
Abstract: A ball retrieval, storage, and dispensing system having a hollow tube with a diameter slightly larger than a ball that is to be placed within the tube. Positioned at the top of the hollow tube is an upper cap having a hollow center portion and at least two hook members. Integrally molded about a ridge on the annular ring is a flange member having an upper diameter and a lower diameter. The lower diameter is slightly larger than the circumference of a ball to be placed with the tube and the upper diameter is slightly smaller than the circumference of the same ball. The flange member is made from a resilient flexible material which enables the upper diameter of the flange member to bend inwardly when a ball is "squeezed" through the annular ring and return to its original position after the ball has completely passed through the upper cap. An elastic retaining band, in conjunction with the resilient flexible flange member, permits the balls to be securely stored within the hollow tube.

  • Patent number: 5743578
Abstract: A collapsible golf ball retriever that has a plurality of fingers pivotally attached to the connecting end of an elongated handle at a common axis of rotation. Each of the fingers has an attachment end connected to the handle and a distal cage portion. The cage portions are constructed to cooperatively receive and hold a golf ball therein. The fingers may rotate between an aligned position and a fanned position. Because the fingers share a common axis of rotation and are, therefore, stacked, the collapsible golf ball retriever is capable of assuming a very compact form that is able to fit in spaces nearly as small as the golf ball itself.

Abstract: A golf club that enables a golfer to retrieve a ball from the ground as well as from a cup includes a club head having a front striking surface. A ball pickup structure includes a concave recess extending into a rear end surface of the body, the concave recess having a generally cylindrical conformation and an axis generally parallel to the striking surface. A pair of resilient fingers are secured to the rear end surface of the body and spaced apart to straddle the concave recess. The fingers include curved interior surfaces disposed in confronting relationship to the concave recess. The fingers and the concave recess together define a lower opening having a longitudinal (front-to-back) dimension slightly less than a golf ball diameter The lower opening may be placed superjacent to a golf ball and the head urged downwardly so that the ball moves relatively upwardly into the lower opening.

  • Patent number: 5690558
Abstract: A golf ball retriever is attached to the handle of a golf putter and is used to retrieve a golf ball from a playing surface and to concurrently deposit a golf ball marker in place of the golf ball. The apparatus includes a fork rotatably mounted to a support body that is secured to the extremity of the handle of a golf club shaft. The fork has a pair of arms which lie substantially in a common plane and are arcuately curved toward each other. One of the arms is longer than the other. A golf ball marker with a turf-engaging spike is placed on the underside of the body supporting the fork and is held thereto by a magnet within the support body. The fork is moved toward the golf ball while residing at a lifting angle inclined about fifteen degrees downwardly relative to the golf club shaft. The arms of the fork engage the undersurface of the golf ball and cradle it therebetween.

Abstract: Apparatus for positioning a golf ball on a tee and for retrieving golf balls and tees. A hand-operated apparatus for setting golf balls on tees without requiring the golfer to bend is described. The device may also be used for retrieving golf balls and tees, and may itself be retrieved if dropped by using the handle of a golf club. The apparatus comprises a hollow outer shaft having a fixed handle at one end and a base for pivotably holding two golf ball encircling jaws at the other. An inner shaft, slidably disposed within the outer shaft and connected to a movable handle at one end, and jaw-actuating wires at the other permits a user to operate the jaws with one hand. A coil spring located between the fixed and movable handles provides a force therebetween, keeping the jaws closed in their normal position.

Abstract: The present invention relates to a golf ball and tee positioning device which includes a gripper disposed at one end of an elongated shaft for manipulating golf balls and a tee inserter disposed at the other end of the shaft for inserting a tee into the ground. The tee inserter includes a rod extending from the shaft, a barrel slideably disposed on the rod, and a pair of spring biased jaws pivotably attached to the barrel. Each jaw member has a mandible portion which extends into a slot formed in the barrel for engaging a tee located within the barrel. The tee is inserted into the ground by placing the tee inserter against the ground and pressing the rod into the barrel so that it engages the head of the tee. • Patent number: 5423584
Abstract: A golf ball retriever comprises a cylindrical receiver with an inner surface of a diameter slightly larger than a standard golf ball, triangular protrusions or ribs extending upwardly and out from the inner surface at an angle of 5 to 11 degrees, connection tabs, and a stop; a retainer that is substantially V-shaped, with its arms extending over the cylinder; and a telescoping rod with at least two pieces of hollow tubing having different diameters and connected with a tapered shim, a plug, and a cap with a glue reservoir. The receiver rotatably mounts to the retainer, which in turn mounts to the telescoping rod. The telescoping rod is formed by plugging one end of a piece of hollow tubing, wrapping the tapered shim around the tubing, inserting the plugged tubing and shim into a larger piece of hollow tubing, placing a cap over the intersection of the two pieces of tubing, and gluing the cap to the larger piece of hollow tubing.

  • Patent number: 5407242
Abstract: A tennis ball retriever and its method of use are disclosed. The tennis ball retriever includes a handle and a collection drum rotatably journalized on the handle. The cylindrical drum is provided with a plurality of axially spaced circumferential tines. At least one of the tines of each spaced-apart pair includes an abrasive surface. In the preferred embodiment, the two outermost circumferential tines have a larger diameter than the inner tines and the outer tines are provided with an outer rolling, supporting and preferably gripping surface. A hinged access door is provided at one end of the collection drum for removing the tennis balls collected within the drum. In use, a person holds the handle grips and rolls the collection drum over loose tennis balls lying on a tennis court or practice surface. The loose tennis balls are grasped by the abrasive surfaces of the spaced-apart cylindrical tines and urged into the interior of the collection drum.

  • Patent number: 5368350
Abstract: An improved multiple purpose golf ball retriever for retrieving golf balls from water hazards. The device comprises an elongated head which has a forward frame, upper frame, sliding rod and side frames. The elongated head can be permanently attached to a telescoping handle, adjusted in any position for use and storage in the golf bag and is accessible for retrieving when needed. The sliding rod which moves in angled sliding rod guides enables the golf ball retriever to capture the ball by going down over the ball. The retriever can be used as a rake in clear or out of view locations and from the top down when rocky, weedy or hazardous water areas restrict the raking action which provides the golf ball retriever with a large margin of error for capturing the golf ball from above or by raking.

  • Patent number: 5335953
Abstract: An apparatus for picking up one golf ball and placing it on a tee includes two telescoping tubular members, and spring biased fingers at the lower end to grip a golf ball. The inner tubular member is movable outwardly to push the golf ball out of the grip of the fingers, and a spring biased inner tubular member is in retracted position further inside the outer tubular member until ready to dispense the golf ball from the grip of the fingers. A pair of removable legs engage the outer tubular member to allow the apparatus to stand generally upright. Another embodiment employs a resilient cup member in lieu of the spring biased fingers at the lower end, such cup member frictionally gripping a golf ball and releasing same by a selective dispensing force exerted on the golf ball by the inner tubular member.
