  • Patent number: 7281756
Abstract: Provided is an automotive rear body structure which can effectively increase the torsional and bending rigidity of a rear part of the automotive body. A damper stiffener 21 is attached to an outer wall of each wheel house inner 15a so as to jointly define a closed cross section. A floor cross member 22 is attached to the outer walls of floor frames 14 and a rear floor panel 6 so as to jointly define a closed cross section. Each damper stiffener 21 extends to such an extent that its lower end overlaps with the upper end of the corresponding floor frame 14 and is spot welded to the corresponding wheel house inner 15a along with the floor cross member 22. Thereby, a closed cross section frame 23 having ridge lines 1 and 1? continually extending from the bottom wall of the trunk room 13 to each side wall thereof firmly connects the right and left wheel houses 15 and the rear floor panel 6 to the floor frames 14.

  • Patent number: 7104597
Abstract: In a vehicle frame structure, an upper edge of a frame member is fixed to a lower face of a substantially flat panel, and a bottom wall of an upper stiffener fixed to an inner face of an upper part of a curved portion of the frame member and a bottom wall of a lower stiffener fixed to an outer face of a lower part of a region between two inflection points of the curved portion are arranged in an X shape relative to a top point of the curved portion. Therefore, when a compressive load in the longitudinal direction acts on the frame member, the curved portion of the frame member is effectively prevented from bending by counterbalancing the upward load acting on the lower stiffener bottom wall with the downward load acting on the upper stiffener bottom wall. Moreover, the upper stiffener and the lower stiffener are U-shaped cross-section members that can be formed by bent sheet metal, and thereby minimize any increase in weight due to installation of the stiffeners.

To optimize the supporting structure, having a region connecting with the passenger compartment structure and a rear end region, the supporting structure is formed as an enveloping device of a high-strength, especially a fiberglass reinforced plastic, which is reinforced with a supporting device and surrounds the driving unit at least regionally, the enveloping device having several openings, each of which forms an access to the driving unit, and being provided with bearing mountings for the driving unit.

Abstract: The invention relates to a corner region between the lateral and rear roof frame of a motor vehicle having a rear door, and to a method for producing it. In order to improve the absorption of mechanical forces acting on the body shell in the roof region in a simple manner, it is proposed that the corner region is formed from shell-shaped components of the rear roof frame and a D-pillar of the motor vehicle and from a hollow profile formed by internal high pressure, the components and the hollow profile being connected nonreleasably to one another, and that the hollow profile is designed as a junction component which, with a first, open end, is connected to the D-pillar and, with a closed neck aligned with the first, open end, is connected to the shell components of the lateral roof frame and, with a second, open end which is angled away from the longitudinal section of the hollow profile, which extends from the first, open end beyond the neck, is connected to the components of the rear roof frame.

  • Patent number: 6648400
Abstract: A pickup truck has a rear vehicle body structure in which a fuel piping system is guided through a rear wheel apron along a cargo bed of the vehicle. A reinforcing member is jointed to the rear wheel apron such as to cover a part of the apron at which a hose of the fuel piping system is led out onto the cargo bed. A lower end of the reinforcing member is bent toward the vehicle body center to form a flange. The rear wheel apron and the rear floor panel are jointed together, with a side edge of the rear floor panel being superposed on the flange of the reinforcing member. The linking strength between the rear wheel apron and the cargo bed of the vehicle is thereby increased without adding any major change in the body design. While the rigidity around the rear wheel apron is improved, the structure does not inhibit the vehicle body from being deformed in a rear impact collision and is capable of protecting the fuel piping system from the impact.
