  • Patent number: 6279982
Abstract: When a rear seat is moved forward, a front leg is swung forward around a roller arm. When the front leg of the rear seat is swung forward by a predetermined angle, a hook provided in the roller arm is detached from a round bar portion of a striker so that a roller is moved downward along a guide rail. Further, as the roller is moved downward along the guide rail, the front leg of the rear seat is swung forward around the roller arm. Therefore, a radius of rotation of the seat is reduced when the rear seat is moved to a position for storage on a vertical-front-side floor surface.

  • Patent number: 6234553
Abstract: A flexible seating system for a vehicle having a seat with a generally horizontal seat cushion and an upright seat back. The seat is movable from a use position to a stowed position lying flat on the vehicle floor or recessed within a well in the vehicle floor in which the seat back overlies the seat cushion. The seat back has an outboard edge located adjacent a side wall of the vehicle with a slidable bearing device extending from the outboard edge of the seat back to a track mounted to the vehicle side wall to guide motion of the seat back as the seat is moved between the use and stowed positions. One or more supports are provided beneath the seat bottom to hold the seat bottom in a spaced relation above the vehicle floor in the use position. The supports and the seat bottom form a 4-bar linkage which rotates as the seat moves between the use and stowed positions.

  • Patent number: 6123380
Abstract: A foldable seat assembly for an automotive vehicle including a base mounted by rollers in a track in a floor structure of a vehicle passenger compartment including support legs at the forward end of the vehicle seat assembly, the upper end of the forward legs being mounted pivotally to a lower frame of the vehicle seat portion and the lower end of the forward leg being assembled in a track in a foot well of the floor structure. Rear legs supporting the lower seat portion are joined to a roller assembly in a track located in the passenger compartment at a level above the level of the foot well. A driver-operated linkage mechanism at the rearward end of the lower seat portion unlocks the seat back portion, allowing it to fold over the lower seat portion. The driver-operated linkage mechanism at the forward end of the lower seat portion allows the seat assembly to move forward pivoting at the lower end of the front leg and downwardly for storage in the foot well as the forward legs pivot at their lower ends.

  • Patent number: 6106046
Abstract: A vehicle, especially a minivan, having at least one rear seat located behind the front seat as viewed in the direction of travel. The seat has a seat back that can be pivoted onto a seat part. A floor pan is located in front of the rear seat in the vehicle floor for accommodating lowering of the rear seat. A folding mechanism pivots the rear seat, folded together by folding the seat back onto the seat part, into the floor pan. To achieve a limited floor pan thickness while retaining a seat height of the seat part of the rear seat that is determined by seating comfort, the folding mechanism has two front and two rear supports, each of the supports being pivotable around a pivot axis aligned transversely to the lengthwise direction of the vehicle and secured to the seat part. The supports hold the rear seat in its operating position at a predetermined seat height above the vehicle floor.

Abstract: A pedestal-type mounting assembly for a vehicle seat having a floor plate structure adapted for fixed attachment to the vehicle floor, and a pedestal assembly adapted for hinged or fixed connection to the floor plate structure. The pedestal assembly has a bottom plate which is normally supportably engaged directly on the floor plate structure, and a pedestal projects upwardly from the bottom plate and has a top structure adapted for connection in a conventional manner to a vehicle seat. A hinge structure releasably connects the floor and bottom plates adjacent one edge thereof for defining a horizontal hinge axis to permit tilting of the seat when desired. The hinged structure involves cantilevered hinge pins engaged within hinge support tubes. A manually-releasable lock structure cooperates between the bottom and floor plates adjacent the other edge to fixedly lock the pedestal assembly to the floor plate. When this lock is released, then the seat can be tilted about the hinged axis.

  • Patent number: 4946216
Abstract: A seat riser integrated with the floor or bed of an automotive vehicle having a removable seat. The integration reduces the height and weight of the seat assembly and allows for the easier use of the vehicle in its full capacity. The seat riser is capable of rotating from a generally vertical operative position to a generally horizontal inoperative position. When in the inoperative position, the seat riser is concealed within a recessed well and has a top portion lying flush with the floor or bed of the vehicle. After rotation, the seat riser is locked into the operative position by a pin and hole locking mechanism. A removable seat, equipped with complimentary retaining elements, is then positioned on the seat risers. Two arms of a spring biased retaining mechanism are then able to engage the retaining elements of the removable seat. The seat riser thus secures and supports the seat in the interior of the vehicle.

  • Patent number: 4768827
Abstract: A seat assembly for vehicles such as automobiles or passenger trains comprises a child-sized seat which is shiftable between an extended position for use atop an adult-sized chair, and a retracted position recessed within a chamber of the adult chair when use of the latter is instead desired. The child seat is comprised of a molded, generally U-shaped base and back which are pivotally interconnected to enable the child seat to assume a low profile, folded disposition when the child seat is recessed within the chamber of the adult chair. A cushioned panel, pivotally coupled to the back of the adult chair, rests on the folded child seat when the latter is in its retracted, non-use position for comfortable support of an adult using the adult chair. A lever mechanism and guide track arrangement provide proper movement of the child seat between its extended position for use and its recessed, non-use position.
