  • Patent number: 5429413
Abstract: A folding lounger with a frame having parallel longitudinal elements each of which is provided with two hinges defining a central portion forming the seat to which are hinged folding legs. The frame also has an upper portion and a lower portion each of which includes a fabric stretched between the two longitudinal elements, as well as at least two supporting crossbars arranged one at each end of the frame. The folding legs are mounted at each end of the seat on joints fastened to the respective hinges the joints being provided so that the folded legs can be juxtaposed in pairs. Support bars are provided with a joint so they can lie alongside the longitudinal elements to allow them to be brought together on folding, whereby the fabric becomes slack and lies outside the structure to avoid being damaged when the lounger is fully folded. The lounger further comprises locking devices for locking and stabilizing the chair when it is fully unfolded and ready for use.

  • Patent number: 5415455
Abstract: A chair with a fabric sling backrest and seat which suspend under tension when the chair is expanded from stretcher and support tubes. The chair collapses by unlocking studs--mounted on the chair's stretcher tubes--from receiver slots, and rotating the stretcher tubes ninety degrees into one plane. The back support tubes also pivot down into the same plane. The chair then easily folds into a compact carrying size. The chair fits into a carrying bag, or alternatively, carrying straps are sewn directly onto the fabric backrest.

  • Patent number: 5362130
Abstract: A lightweight, collapsible compact chair with back support for outdoor backpacking use is described. The chair is an improvement in stability and weight to a prior art compact chair disclosed in U.S. Pat. No. 4,673,211. The improved chair version comprises a triangular sling fastened to the ends of three frame support members which are joined to form an inverted wye for placing on the ground. The two front support members are angled 90 degrees apart for optimum seated stability. A removable backrest is placed against the top of the sling and held by an adhesive. Each of the three frame support members may be easily connected or disconnected without need of screws or clamps. When placed closely together for packing together with the sling, the package weighs less than 24 ounces, which is very suitable for back-packing.

  • Patent number: 5332283
Abstract: The folding chair (10) includes V-shaped main support frame (12) with an apex (28) and two legs (22 and 24) with free ends. A V-shaped seat support frame (14) has an apex (40) and two arms (34 and 36) with free ends. The V-shaped seat support frame (14) is pivotally attached to the main support frame (12) by pivot pins (48 and 50) which allow pivotal movement between a position in which both V-shaped frames (12 and 14) are in a common plane and a position in which the seat support frame (14) is in a plane that is generally perpendicular to the plane through the main support frame (12). A third leg (16) is pivotally attached to the V-shaped main support frame (12) near its apex. The third leg (16) is connected to the apex portion (40) of the V-shaped seat support frame (14) by a pin member (66) and holds the seat support frame in a fixed position relative to the V-shaped main support frame.

  • Patent number: 5139309
Abstract: The tray assembly for mounting to a wheelchair includes a tray having a top surface and bottom surface, a member for supporting the tray to an arm rest of the wheelchair, the member being mountable on the arm rest of the wheelchair, and a double hinge for pivotably affixing the tray surface to the member for supporting the tray surface. The double hinge has a first and second pivotal axis where pivotal movement of the tray from the use position to an intermediate position occurs about a first pivotal axis and pivotal movement of the tray from an intermediate position to a storage position occurs about the second pivotal axis. The tray assembly enables the tray surface to extend on the outerside on the arm rest and allows the tray to be folded into a non-use position alongside the wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 5087096
Abstract: An unique apparatus for displacing an extensible/contractible board for a chair in case of an occurrence of emergency is disclosed. The apparatus includes a board support, an engagement piece, a turn guide plate, a stationary guide plate and an opposing pair of base members. The board assumes a horizontal attitude during normal use. In case of emergency, an excessive magnitude of outer force in excess of resilient force derived from Belleville springs is imparted to the board by an user's hand so that the engagement piece is disengaged from the turn guide plate via operative engagement of an eccentric projection on the board shaft with an engagement recess on the engagement piece. This causes the board to be displaced from the horizontal attitude to a vertical attitude, whereby a sufficiently wide space is provided in front of the user so as to enable him to quickly escape from his chair.

Abstract: An accessory holder for a wheelchair is selectively mountable on a wheelchair of the type having no arm rests. The mount includes a base that fits over a lower frame member of the wheelchair. A support rod is fixed to the base and extends up, to terminate in the accessory holder. A latch is fixed to an upper frame member of the wheelchair and receives and holds the support rod. The support rod must move up to release the base from the lower frame member, and a stop on the rod prevents upward movement when the rod is held by the latch. Many different accessory holders may be carried by the support rod, and the accessory holders are interchangeable with respect to one wheelchair.

  • Patent number: 4878685
Abstract: A wheelchair work tray multipivotal mounting assembly may be easily mounted and removed from a wheelchair and is adapted to receive a multipivotal mount for use by wheelchair occupants. The mounting assembly is adapted for mounting over one arm of a wheelchair and includes a pair of plates adapted for sliding over a wheelchair arm. Once positioned on the arm, the mounting assembly may be locked into place by a locking assembly including a lever operated cam. The cam secures the mounting assembly to the wheelchair arm and resists displacement or rotation in any direction. A receiver accepts a multipivotal mount supporting a tray and enables vertical adjustment and rotation of the multipivotal mount about a vertical axis. The mounting assembly may be removed by rotating the lever counterclockwise and swinging the locking assembly outward.
