Abstract: A floor groover used to facilitate specialized heat welding of floor covering materials. The groover cuts a groove for receiving a welding rod at the edges or seam of abutting pieces of flooring materials. The groover can provide for a groove not only up to the wall, but also up the wall and in the radius of the coved-sticked area. Some embodiments of the groover can provide enhanced freedom of movement, which can be helpful when creating grooves of certain shapes in the flooring.

  • Patent number: 8434235
Abstract: A cutting assembly is slidably mounted on a T-Square. The T-Square may include a scale having multiple indicia for measured cutting based on the size of the wallboard sheet being cut. The cutting assembly is mounted on a slider which may be clamped at measured positions along the arm of the T-Square. The cutting assembly includes oppositely disposed knife blades which are slidably mounted in a housing and spring loaded on opposite sides of a pivot mount such that when not in use the cutting assembly is urged to level and rests with the two knife blades retracted. As the housing is rotated so as to lower one end, the corresponding knife blade extends from the housing to engage with and score or cut the surface of the wallboard material. The cutting tool may be rotated in the opposite direction to thereby extend from the housing the other blade of the pair of oppositely disposed knife blades.

Abstract: A skinning knife, comprising a handle, a slitting blade disposed at a forward portion of the handle and having an upwardly- and forwardly-directed cutting edge, a first spreading member disposed at the forward most position of the knife so as to spread apart two portions of animal hide or other material that have been separated by the slitting blade as the knife is thrust forwardly, and a retractable punch blade disposed in the handle beneath slitting blade for opening a hole in the hide when the knife is thrust forwardly, the first spreading member having a slot therein for receiving the punch blade. A punch blade actuation mechanism is provided for selectively moving the punch blade forwardly and rearwardly through the slot in the first spreading member. Preferably, the skinning knife also comprises a second spreading member disposed below and forward of the first spreading member for facilitating entry into a small slit.

Abstract: A cutting tool for cutting sheets of materials, such as, for example, sheets of building materials. The cutting tool includes a base defining a support surface. The base includes a slot extending through the support surface along at least a portion of the base. The cutting tool further includes a handle having a proximate end pivotally engaged with respect to the base. The handle is pivotally movable with respect to the base between an open position and a closed position. The cutting tool further includes a blade integrated or positioned with respect to the proximate end of the handle. The blade includes a plurality of generally flat cutting surfaces arranged in a polygonal profile. When the handle is in the closed position, the slot receives at least a portion of the blade.

  • Patent number: 7540094
Abstract: A cutter knife for making slash-quilts is provided, which has a plurality of guide members having different width dimensions. Further, a plurality of slits are formed between each of the guide members and the casing of the cutter knife, in each of the slits a blade edge is exposed. Since one cutter knife is provided with a plurality of guide members having different widths, the one cutter knife can be widely used for making a variety of slash-quilts having different pitch widths between stitch lines, without need for exchanging the guide members. A user can select one guide member having a suitable width dimension for a certain pitch width between the stitch lines, and insert the selected guide member between the stitch lines of a quilt. Then, the user pulls the cutter knife backward to himself, or pushes it forward to cut the quilt, and the slash-quilts is made.

Abstract: A lamina cutter includes a handle with a blade having a cutting edge mounted thereon. A guard member is affixed to the blade, and is positioned at a distance from the handle to establish a channel having a width “w” therebetween. The blade then extends between the handle and the guard member to present its cutting edge across the width of the channel. In use, a lamina (e.g. a sheet) having a thickness “t” (wherein “t”<“w”), is advanced through the channel and against the cutting edge to cut the lamina.

Abstract: A device for opening an envelope is disclosed. In the envelope opening device of the present invention, when a user merely inserts an edge part of an envelope into a guide slot of a casing and pushes or pulls the envelope, the edge part of the envelope is precisely cut by a cutting means to a predetermined length while the edge part is supported and guided by a guide wall, which is provided inside the guide slot, and while the envelope is held and supported by a holding means such that it is prevented from undesirably moving. Therefore, the present invention makes it possible to precisely cut the edge part of the envelope to a minimum length. Furthermore, because the present invention does not require the user to pay much attention to the length of the edge part to be cut, there is an advantage in that the opening process is simplified.

Abstract: A cutting device comprises a holder body having a handle and a rabbet edge guide. The rabbet edge guide is disposed along one edge of the handle body and comprises a rabbet with an extending rear face. Adjacent the rabbet on the front face of the holder body is a blade holder mechanism comprising a V-shaped indentation in the holder body and a securing mechanism for a blade. In use, a blade is secured to the blade holder mechanism so that a cutting edge of the blade extends beyond the holder body and into the rabbet, parallel to the extending rear face. A rabbet cut is made in a ceiling tile by pressing the rear face of the holder body against the edge of the tile to be cut, and running the blade along the tile, to create a straight cut that penetrates only a portion of the depth of the tile. The tile is then rotated 90 degrees, and another cut is made into the edge of the tile, with the rear face of the holder body resting against one of the faces of the tile.

Abstract: Drywall Ripper is a sliding housing with a cutting mechanism for use with a T-square or the like. The preferred embodiment of the invention utilizes a housing, a slot in the housing with a magnet to hold a blade, clamping components within the housing activated with a clamping button on the housing, a release button on the housing to disengage the clamping components, a viewer opening on the housing, and a groove in the housing for insertion onto a T-square. To use the preferred embodiment of Drywall Ripper, an individual uses the groove to place the housing onto a T-square. The clamping button is then pressed to lock the clamping components of the device at the desired measurement on the T-square. The top of the T-square is then placed on a flat surface parallel to the ground and a piece of drywall is placed perpendicular to the flat surface, supported against its backside.
