Patent number: 6536115Abstract: The present invention provides a knife with a replaceable blade which is spring-biased in the retracted position. The knife is designed such that the blade can only be extended by exerting a downward force and by turning the handle with respect to an inner housing. The handle has a tab affixed to the inside wall of the handle. The inner housing has an angled slot in its wall adapted to receive the tab. When the blade is fully retracted, the tab rests on the shoulder at the top of the inner housing. A straight downward pressure on the handle causes the tab to engage the shoulder and will not allow the blade to extend. When the handle is rotated, the tab enters the slot and the blade is forced downward. As this occurs, the blade extends through a slot at the bottom of a blade cover. When the blade is removed from the object to be cut, the spring forces the handle to move with respect to the inner housing and causes the blade to retract within the blade cover.Type: GrantFiled: October 30, 1998Date of Patent: March 25, 2003Inventors: James Tabbi, John E. Bernacki, Christopher J. Hughson, James A. Herley

The outer circumferences of the bulge sections and the fitting body together form a waved face for a user's hand to more snugly hold and more conveniently turn the grip and achieve a more comfortable touching feeling.Type: GrantFiled: June 16, 2000Date of Patent: June 25, 2002Inventor: Yin-Chu Lai

Patent number: 6402725Abstract: A cup of plastics material incorporating foaming agents has thin wall portions, namely a base (101), a lower side wall (102) and an upper side wall (103). These portions have their wall thickness determined by mold part gap. The cup also has thick wall portions, namely the corner (104), the band (105) and the rim (106), in which foaming occurs after mold opening so that the wall thickness is increased beyond that provided by the mold.Type: GrantFiled: April 16, 1999Date of Patent: June 11, 2002Assignee: Coraltech LimitedInventor: Peter Reginald Clarke

Publication number: 20020066351Abstract: There is provided a mounting member to be detachably screwed onto the rotary shaft of a power tool, and during the attachment and detachment of the mounting member to and from the power tool, a part for clamping and integrally securing a rotary cutter between an inner flange and an outer flange which functions as a lock nut is constructed by fitting a claw of the inner flange onto a fitting groove formed in the outer flange. Owing to this construction, it is possible to highly precisely and integrally secure the mounting member to individual rotary cutters.Type: ApplicationFiled: November 30, 2001Publication date: June 6, 2002Applicant: SANKYO DIAMOND INDUSTRIAL CO., LTD.Inventors: Norio Sumida, Shigeyoshi Kobayashi

Publication number: 20020066189Abstract: An implement having a handle, a tang, and a working portion is assembled by snapping the tang into the handle. The tang has prongs that snap into a locking structure within the handle. No attachment hardware such as rivets or adhesives are necessary to secure the tang to the handle. A method of securing the tang to the handle includes snapping the tang into the handle with no further installation steps required. In a preferred embodiment, the implement is a fixed blade knife having a blade with a tang and a sharpened end.Type: ApplicationFiled: December 6, 2000Publication date: June 6, 2002Inventors: Bradford Parrish, Roy Jensen, Jeffrey L. Patent number: 6393704Abstract: A self-leveling eating utensil having a handle and a food carrier rotatably coupled to the handle. The food carrier may be coupled to a shank which is, in turn, rotatably coupled to the handle. The food carrier is positioned offset from the handle and the shank to weight itself into a self-leveling position with the food-carrying surface thereof positioned to carry food without spillage. A weight is preferably provided on the shank to further weight the food carrier into the self-leveling position. The weight may be formed at the free end of the shank opposite the food carrier. In a preferred embodiment, the weight is formed as a bend in the free end of the shank in a direction toward the food carrier. Preferably, the handle is formed to permit decoupling to clean the interior thereof and recoupling to use the eating utensil once again after cleaning. Such handle is formed from first and second handle halves which are readily coupled, decoupled, and recoupled.Type: GrantFiled: May 4, 2000Date of Patent: May 28, 2002Inventors: David Tompkins, Gerard D.
