  • Patent number: 7290641
Abstract: A brake device for a power tool has a brake assembly, a bearing portion, a pinion and a gearbox. The brake assembly includes a brake base, a cover, a first throttle cable, a second throttle cable, a brake-activating block, a brake-guiding pillar, a brake band and a brake drum. The first throttle cable, the brake-activating block and the second throttle cable are linearly connected together in series. The brake-activating block is designed to abut against the brake-guiding pillar in a brake position and a release position, respectively. With the relative movement among the first throttle cable, the brake-activating block and the brake-guiding pillar, the abutting or separating state between the brake band and the brake drum can be easily controlled.

  • Patent number: 7287330
Abstract: A chain saw automatic tensioner preferably includes a base plate, a chain bar, a tensioning cylinder, a sliding block and a pusher block. The base plate includes a sliding slot that is sized to slidably receive the sliding block. The chain bar includes a substantially half oval shape that is sized to retain a cutting chain. An end of the chain bar is retained between a top of the sliding block and a bottom of the pusher block. The tensioning cylinder is mounted to the base plate opposite the sliding slot. Hydraulic oil in the tensioning cylinder forces a cylinder rod and the pusher block secured to the chain bar away from a chain sprocket and thus tensioning the cutting chain.

  • Patent number: 6565294
Abstract: A plunge cutting device for use with a portable drill, drill press, or other rotary drive source which is capable of cutting irregularly shaped openings or workpieces in a single operation. A drive chain, belt, or other means carries a plurality of cutting teeth along a path defined by a series of chain guides. A lower plate, adjacent the surface being cut serves as a finer resolution guide for the cutting teeth to define their cutting path. The configuration and orientation of the cutting teeth causes them to push inward against the edge of the plate so that they follow its shape closely. A preferred shield encloses the teeth, chain, and drive mechanism for safety and to serve as a vacuum shroud for dust collection. The shield may also act as a guide, holding the teeth in position prior to the start of the cutting operation.

The chain saw comprises a bar-shaped top handle extending in a lengthwise direction above an upper surface of a main body and a bar-shaped side handle provided next to a left side surface of the main body. When the main body is seen in a plan view, a front end portion of the side handle is intersected transversely with and coupled to a left side surface of a front end portion of the top handle. A right-side support surface extending outwardly in the transverse direction is provided on a right side surface of the front end portion of the top handle. It is located substantially at the same position as a left-side support surface which is comprised of a rear surface of the front end portion of the side handle in the lengthwise direction of the main body.

  • Patent number: 6546905
Abstract: A valve drive mechanism is provided for an internal combustion engine, especially a four-stroke engine in a power chain saw. The implement housing is spanned by a front handle, the tubular grip of which is adjacent to the cylinder head of the engine and extends from one longitudinal side of the implement to the other longitudinal side thereof. A rocker arm of a valve control is pivotably mounted on the cylinder head between the ends of the rocker arm, with the rocker arm being pivotable about a pivot axis disposed transverse to the rocker arm. Push rods of a control mechanism engage one end of the rocker arm to actuate a poppet valve, on the valve stem of which the other end of the rocker arm acts. To be able to guide the tubular grip close to the center of gravity of the implement, the longitudinal axis of the rocker arm is disposed approximately parallel to the adjacent portion of the tubular grip.

  • Patent number: RE37832
Abstract: The chain of an electromotive chain saw is quickly stopped by the combined use of an electric brake and a mechanical brake when a trigger member is turned off. The rear end of a brake band disposed to tighten a brake drum by operating a hand guard is secured to a bent rod. When the trigger member is released, the brake band is normally tightened around the outer periphery of a brake drum by the urging force of a coil spring. When the trigger member is released, a circuit provided with a brake winding is closed, thereby applying a dynamic braking force. When the dynamic brake force is applied, a centrifugal clutch is released quickly and the speed of stopping the brake drum is accelerated.
