Pipe And Rod Cutters Patents (Class 30/92)
  • Patent number: 4674184
Abstract: A cutting tool for plastic tubes or the like including a pair of pivotally connected handle members. One member is defined by a pair of sidewalls interconnected by spaced web portions, an integrally formed jaw for supporting a tube to be cut, pivot structure for pivotally supporting a cutting blade and a slot through which the cutting blade extends. The second handle member carries a ratchet plate having a aperture defining a plurality of ratchet teeth. The ratchet plate is secured to the second handle member by the co-engagement between a pivot pin and an aperture formed in the ratchet plate and a mounting edge that abutably engages an abutment wall formed by the second handle member. The cutting blade is mounted to the first member by a pivot assembly which is easily removed to release the blade.

  • Patent number: 4644650
Abstract: A manually operated cutting tool has a pair of handles, a stationary cutting plate to which one handle is attached pivotally and the other one rigidly, and a rotary knife also pivotally attached to the cutting plate. A force-and-motion transmission mechanism between the movable handle, which is mounted with the aid of a pivot pin, and the rotary knife, is defined by an excenter drive comprising a cylindrical block affixed to the movable handle excentrically relative to the pivot pin, and a driving pawl having a circular opening for accommodating said block and a toothing for engagement with a circular row of teeth provided on the outer edge of the rotary knife. The rotary knife has at its inner edge a curvilinear cutting edge which, being generally concave, may have two convex projections, a first one adjacent the end opposite the location of the pivotal attachment, and the other projection, less sharp than the first one, between the first one and the end adjacent the pivotal attachment.

  • Patent number: 4599795
Abstract: A cutting tool of the ratchet operated type comprises several elements. A movable blade having a plurality of notches along the rear end thereof is moved relative to a stationary blade by an opening and closing operation of a pair of blades through a push bar which is in engagement with one of the notches. A pawl for preventing the return of the movable blade is elastically biased so as to be kept in a position disengaged from all of the notches under normal conditions. The pawl is brought into engagement with one of the notches by the push bar only when the pair of handles are fully closed relative to each other. Due to the above construction, the cutting tool according to the invention brings about reduced wear of the pawl and the notches and an easy cutting operation.

  • Patent number: 4277887
Abstract: A device for transversely shearing a conduit including a first handle having a recessed conduit-receiving jaw at one end thereof, a shearing blade pivotally mounted on said first handle at the location for pivoting toward and away from said jaw, and including a plurality of ratchet teeth along one edge thereof, and a second handle pivotally connected to said jaw. An elongated toothed pawl bar having an elongated slot near one end thereof, and having pawl teeth at the other end thereof, is pivotally secured by a pivot pin extending through said slot to said second handle at a point spaced from its point of pivotal connection to said jaw. A cam stud secured to said first handle bears against one side edge of said pawl bar opposite the edge upon which the pawl teeth are located, and functions, when the handles are pivoted toward each other, to cam said pawl bar to a location at which said pawl teeth engage said ratchet teeth.

Abstract: A cutter that can be mounted to a workpiece for cutting a cope at a prescribed arc at a selected radius and angle. A support frame mounts a band saw for pivotal movement about a first axis, parallel to the saws cutting flight. The support frame is mounted to a central workpiece clamp for pivotal movement about a second axis that is parallel to the first. The clamp secures the workpiece to the support frame, centered on a plane parallel to the first axis. The saw blade can thus be swung through an arc representing the outside diameter of a second workpiece that is to intersect at a prescribed angle with the clamped workpiece.

  • Patent number: 4092774
Abstract: A cutting device particularly adapted for cutting plastic tubing is provided and includes a first and second elongated handle member. The handle members are pivotally secured together at one end so that the handle members are movable relative to each other between an open and closed position. Semicircular and facing recesses are formed along the inner side of the handle members which correspond in shape to the outer periphery of the plastic tubing which is to be cut. Thus, with the plastic tubing between the handle members the handle members are moved to their closed position which clampingly engages the plastic tubing between the semicircular recesses. A cutting blade is pivotally secured to one of the handle members so that the cutting blade can be moved across the handle members to cut the plastic tubing.

  • Patent number: 4055891
Abstract: Handle-operated shear-type cable cutter with one jaw member integral with one of its handles, the other jaw member being connected with the first by a main pivot about which said other jaw member rotates. An arcuate ratchet segment, integral with the rotatable jaw member, has ratchet teeth on a portion of its periphery remote from the cutting edge of the jaw. It is driven by a pawl assembly comprising a U-shaped bracket, the saddle of which houses a drive pawl and the legs of which carry, at their free ends, journals which support the main pivot pin and transmit thrust to the jaw members. A link member, pivoted at both ends, interconnects the operating handle with the pawl assembly. The cutting edges of the jaws are shaped to define an opening within the tips as the jaws meet, which is preferably diamond-shaped, but which reduces in size as the jaws close. A lost-motion pin-in-slot connection limits closing movement of the handles.
