Abstract: A zero power standby system for controlling electric appliances is able to wait for switch on instructions without any power consumption. This is done by a remote controller (1) transmitting power in the form of an electromagnetic field, light, or audio signal to a power receiving section (2) of a control signal receiving device (13). The power receiving section will then use the received power to force a multi-switch section (7) to connect between a power supply and a control signal receiving section (9) and a control signal processing section (3) and put the appliance into its usual running mode. When a user desires to turn off the electric appliance, the system stops supplying power to the control signal receiving section (9) and the control signal processing section (3) by turning off multi-switch section (7) and putting the electric appliance back to its zero power standby mode (i.e. consuming no power). Therefore, wasting of electrical energy in the standby mode is reduced to zero.

Abstract: An electrical switching topology for a hybrid switch provides extremely low losses in both cryogenic and non-cryogenic electronic systems. In this switch having switch modules connected in parallel, switching losses in a first module are separated from conduction losses in the parallel-connected second module. The conduction losses are then further reduced by cryogenically cooling the second module. Since the switching losses of the first module can be absorbed outside a cryogenic container, the switching losses do not add to the cryogenic heat load. In other applications, the switching module operates at lower temperatures to provide higher switching speeds and reduces switching heat generation.

The lamp transponder is used to communicate specific lamp information to the control circuit. The control circuit may then modify the start time for that lamp based on this information.

Abstract: An HID single light emitting point lamp tube switching device is provided for switching the lamp tube between a far light position and a near light position. Initially, a strong current coil and a weak current coil are induced at the same time, so that the HID single light emitting point are moved to the second position, and at end of a time period set in the timer, the strong current coil will be interrupted so that only the weak current coil is actuated to maintain the HID single light emitting point in the second position.

Abstract: The invention relates to an electric device comprising an electric switch (3) having a plurality of contact members arranged in series to form a plurality of breaking points arranged in series. One of the contact members at each breaking point is movable. A drive means (9) is arranged to actuate each movable contact member. The drive means (9) is arranged to effect simultaneous movement of the movable contact members. In accordance with this invention a commutation circuit (2) is connected in parallel with the electric switch (3). Each contact member constitutes a part of a contact element, which contact elements are arranged in series. The contact elements have conducting and insulating parts. Every second contact element is movable in relation the others so that moement effects a breaking or closing position of the electric switch. The invention also relates to a current limiter comprising such an electric device and also an electric power network provided with such a current limiter.

Abstract: An actuation and control device for opening and/or closing an electric switchgear which is connected to an electrical network and has at least one fixed contact and at least one movable contact. The actuation and control device includes an actuator operatively connected to the movable contact to supply the energy to perform opening/closing operations. A measuring mechanism detects the voltage and/or the current of at least one of the phases of the network. The actuator includes a motor with position control, which is operatively connected to the movable contact, and an electronic control and power supply unit which receives information from the measuring mechanism and, following an operation command, sends to the motor electrical signals for driving the motor so that the movement of the movable contact is controlled in relation to a predetermined operation time and to the received information.

Abstract: With an auxiliary lock operated by a built-in battery, it is desired to prevent the door from being kept locked even if the battery dies. The auxiliary lock body is provided with first and second voltage detecting means for detecting that the voltage of the battery has lowered to predetermined voltages. If the first voltage detecting means detects that the voltage of the battery has dropped to a predetermined voltage, the fact is alarmed. Then, if the second voltage detecting means detects that the voltage of the battery has dropped further, the actuator is activated to open the lock by pushing down the bolt inside the lock surface before the battery dies, thereby preventing the door from being kept locked even if the battery dies.

Abstract: An electric actuator that is structured simply, low in costs and high in both energy efficiency and operation accuracy and is capable of realizing frequent activation and stop is provided. In a return stroke in which a linear actuator is in low load operation state, an energy generated by an electric motor and a kinetic energy generated by movable portions when they stop are absorbed and accumulated by a coil spring. By this constitution, it becomes possible to cause the movable portions of the linear actuator to quickly stop while eliminating the necessity of giving a braking force by an electric or mechanical brake or the like and of providing a configuration designed for giving a braking force in a reliable manner such as one provided as a measure against heat generation. On the other hand, in an actuation stroke, the energy accumulated in the spring is released as operation energy of the movable portions when the spring extends and a driving force required of the electric motor is reduced.

  • Patent number: 5754890
Abstract: A circuit using a single transistor to detect the interface type to Which a combination pointing device is connected. The pointing device may be connected to a PS/2 interface, which generates a voltage greater than or equal to 0 volts, or a serial interface which generates a negative voltage. The transistor is activated when connected to the serial interface, and is inactive when connected to the PS/2 interface. The output of the transistor is sensed by a microcontroller within the pointing device. The microcontroller generates data for transmission to the PS/2 interface if the transistor is not active, and generates data for transmission to the serial interface if the transistor is active. An I/O pin in the microcontroller is used to sense the interface type and can also be used as an output in which the microcontroller generates control signals for use by the pointing device. This multitasking operation reduces the required pin count of the microcontroller, thus reducing cost.
