  • Patent number: 8823238
Abstract: A design for and method of winding an electric motor, generator or other electrical machine using multiple strands of wire preformed into a wave shape with a plurality of legs connected by shaped end turns. This results in efficient packing and improved machine performance in terms of both efficiency and power density without the need for flux concentrators. The conductors or windings may be preformed so as to be a self supporting structure, aiding assembly and eliminating the need for an iron core.

Abstract: A step motor having a stator constructed with six teeth per pole is achieved for a stator inner diameter (ID) less than one inch (25.4 mm) by a either (1) reducing the pitch angle of the outer teeth of each pole (e.g., to at most 6.8 degrees for a 19 mm stator ID), or (2) narrowing the tooth width of those outer teeth (e.g., to at most 0.0175 inch or 0.444 mm for a 19 mm stator ID), or (3) combination of both. These changes allow sufficient space (i.e., wider than 0.052 inch or 1.321 mm) between poles for passage of a winding needle, even with the extra stator teeth. Although narrowing the pitch angle and reducing the tooth width do sacrifice some torque contribution from each tooth, there still results a net overall gain in torque.

The stator coil has first and second coil end parts and that respectively protrude axially outward from a pair of axial end faces of the stator core. At each of the coil end parts, the turn portions of the electric conductor wires are stacked in a radial direction of the stator core, and the axial heights h1 of the turn portions are set so as to gradually increase from the radially inside to the radially outside.

Abstract: A intelligent cascaded synchronous electric motor-generator tandem of cumulative compound excitation comprises at least a synchronous electric motor-generator tandem (namely MG tandem), a storage battery cluster and an autotransformer. Each MG tandem comprises at least a pair of motor and generator having a common stator and a common rotor shaft. The storage battery cluster, which provides a DC power to general loads and motor, serves as a DC power reservoir to be recharged by generator. The autotransformer serves to regulate the AC voltage output from generator via multiple output taps thereon for supplying various AC voltages to different external loads. By integrating all components aforesaid with common magnetic flux interacted mutually, upon being energized by DC power from storage battery cluster, the motor will transfer rotational torque to drive the generator in enhanced synergistic manner.

Abstract: The disclosed invention describes a motor/generator coil produced using rectangular electric current conductors of any thickness and width. A unique joint between the up and down segments of the coil turn enables an improved conductor packing ratio and geometrical orientation that minimizes the effect of eddy currents. The resulting coil produces higher power than typical wire wound motors but is lighter weight and physically smaller in size. In addition, the coil can be free-standing, and is capable of slotless and/or ironless core device configuration.
