  • Patent number: 6570309
Abstract: A cathode ray tube including a pair of supports arranged in parallel facing each other and a shadow mask acting as a color selection electrode including a large number of apertures. The shadow mask is stretched and held by the supports in a state in which tension is applied by the supports. In the shadow mask before being stretched onto the supports, the shapes of the apertures are varied so that the width of the apertures in the middle portion in the direction in which tension is to be applied narrows gradually from the central portion towards the both end portions in the direction parallel to the longitudinal direction of the support. Thereby, the shapes of the apertures can be made to be uniform over the entire surface in a state in which the shadow mask is stretched. As a result, a cathode ray tube with less color unevenness can be provided.

  • Patent number: 6570313
Abstract: The present invention provides a color cathode-ray tube that can attenuate vibration of an entire shadow mask positively with a simple structure. The color cathode-ray tube comprises a frame-shaped mask frame and a shadow mask in which many apertures are formed in a flat plate, the shadow mask being stretched and fixed in the mask frame in a condition in which a tension force is applied in one direction. The amplitude in the end portions of the shadow mask is not less than a certain amount relative to the amplitude in the center portion of the shadow mask, in a resonance of the shadow mask caused by a vibration propagated to the color cathode-ray tube. Furthermore, by providing vibration attenuators at the end portions of the shadow mask, vibrations at the end portions of the shadow mask are attenuated as the side surfaces of the shadow mask slide on the vibration attenuators. Thus, vibration of the entire shadow mask can be extinguished positively.

  • Publication number: 20030080667
Abstract: A lightweight cathode ray tube is formed by reducing a cross-sectional area on the apeture grill tapes in the aperture grill. One exemplary embodiment of the reduced cross-sectional area aperture grill tape includes a central longitudinal channel in a side of the aperture grill tape that faces away from the screen. The reduction in cross-sectional area reduces a linear density of the tape thereby decreasing the tension required by the frame. As each of the aperture grill tapes includes this central longitudinal channel, the weight of the overall aperture grill is significantly reduced and the aperture grill frame weight is reduced due to the lower aperture grill tension. A method for producing the reduced cross-sectional area aperture grill tape is possible without significantly increasing the cost of manufacturing the aperture grill tape.

Abstract: A color display tube (1) is disclosed with an improved suspension of the color selection electrode (12). In order to have a color display tube with good properties of, for instance, color purity, it is of eminent importance that the color selection electrode (12) has and excellent positional stability. Especially wide screen tubes seem to be more sensitive to external shocks by which the color selection electrode (12) may shift and cause discolorations. The positional stability of the color selection electrode (12) can be improved by decreasing the friction between the color selection electrode (12) and the supporting elements (17) in the display window (3) of the color display tube (1). This is achieved by applying a supporting element (17) with a free end portion (22) having a small diameter and by applying a low force between the suspension means (20) and the supporting elements (17).

  • Patent number: 6552480
Abstract: In a color cathode-ray tube with a shadow mask stretched and held by supporters while being provided with a tensile force, a member with a substantially L-shaped cross-section is used for each of the supporters, which is obtained by forming of a strip plate material having a middle part and thinner thickness-deviation portions on both sides of the middle part by rolling of a metal material; and then bending and deforming of the strip plate material in its width direction by roll forming to form a bent and deformed portion in the middle part. The supporter obtained by such a method can be reduced in weight while maintaining substantially the same strength as that of a conventional product, can be processed economically in relatively simple steps, and has less thickness variation. Therefore, an inexpensive color cathode-ray tube having stable qualities and causing less color unevenness can be provided.

Abstract: The present invention provides an improved support blade structure 40 for use on a tension mask frame assembly 10. The support blade structure 40 is formed of a material having a first coefficient of thermal expansion and includes fastening portions 51 and an insert member 60 connected at a generally central location to the support blade structure 40. The insert member 60 is formed of a material having a second coefficient of thermal expansion and has a plurality of apertures 62, 64 extending in a row along its length. The aperatures 62, 64 are dimensioned to be larger than the fastening portions 51 passing therethrough to loosely connect the insert member 60 to the support blade structure 40. This allows the insert member 60 to be connected at the center while it's ends are free to slide relative to the support blade structure 40 during thermal cycling.

The supporters (14) have crank-shaped steps (15) formed to protrude toward the shadow mask (6). Thereby, an internal moment of a shadow mask structure can be decreased, and thus, displacement of the shadow mask (6) in the axial direction is suppressed even when the shadow mask (6) is expanded by heat generated by impact of electron beams, and q-value deviation is suppressed as well. Moreover, since the crank-shaped steps (15) are helpful in blocking a transverse clearance with a ferrous material, the magnetic properties can be improved.

  • Patent number: 6489713
Abstract: In the case of shadow masks which are pretensioned vertically and horizontally and the horizontal pretension of which is produced by stretching in the vertical direction, an expensive mask material having a low coefficient of thermal expansion can only be replaced by a less expensive mask material, such as iron, if the tension forces which can be produced for pretensioning the mask in the horizontal direction are markedly higher than the hitherto produced forces. For this purpose, the outer boundaries of the shadow-mask sides which are not connected to the mask frame are implemented such that they have a curved shape and a higher strength. In this way, it is possible to produce in a direction perpendicular to the stretching direction tension forces which are higher than the hitherto produced forces.

The vibration attenuating members are made of a metal having a greater mass than the non-hole part, and attached by spot-welding so that they are away from the non-hole part by a predetermined gap at every portion except the welding points. Therefore, the vibration attenuating members serve as a damper to attenuate vibrations which are transmit in the major direction, particularly vibrations generated by the speakers.
