  • Publication number: 20010030503
Abstract: A cathode ray tube with a panel that has a thickness of the central portion of an effective area of a screen surface that is TC, a thickness of a vertical edge that is TV, a thickness of a horizontal edge portion that is TH, and a thickness of an edge in a diagonal direction that is TD. The respective values of TC, TV, TH and TD satisfy the expression (TH−TC)+(TV−TC)+(TD−TC)<TC/3, and the radius of curvature in the diagonal direction of the outer surface of the effective area is 1450 mm or more. Thus, by limiting the difference in thickness of the central portion and the peripheral portion of the effective screen area of the panel and the curvature radius of the inner and outer surfaces of the effective screen, the weight of the panel is reduced and an increase of an incident angle caused by flatness of the screen panel is prevented so that a convergence feature of an electron beam is improved.

Using a Cartesian coordinate system of the axes x, y, and z, the saggital height Z of any point (x, y, z) on the inner surface of the face panel 4 from the origin O in the direction of the tube is given by Z=a.sub.1 x.sup.2 +a.sub.2 x.sup.4 +a.sub.3 y.sup.2 +a.sub.4 x.sup.2 y.sup.2 +a.sub.5 x.sup.4 y.sup.2 +a.sub.6 y.sup.4 +a.sub.7 x.sup.2 y.sup.4, which describes a curved surface without inflection points.

Abstract: A color cathode ray tube is disclosed, that comprises an optical filter layer 2 formed on an inner surface of a glass panel 1, a thin film formed on a front surface of the optical filter layer 2 and composed of a metal oxide, and a fluorescent substance layer 4 formed on the thin film 3 corresponding to a pattern of the optical filter layer 2. The surface state of the thin film 3 is rougher than the surface state of the optical filter layer 2 and similar to the surface state of the fluorescent substance layer 4. Thus, the optical filter layer 2 sparsely contacts the fluorescent substance layer 4. Thus, the influence of the optical filter layer 2 to the fluorescent substance layer 4 can be reduced. Consequently, fluorescent substance particles of the fluorescent substance layer 4 can be suppressed from breaking, dropping, and so forth. Thus, an excellent fluorescent surface can be obtained at high throughput.

Abstract: The present invention provides an inexpensive cathode ray tube envelope which suffers considerably diminished glass browning in comparison with traditional cathode ray tube envelopes. The method of reducing glass browning in cathode ray tubes, and a suitable glass composite and glass composition are also provided. The cathode ray tube envelope of the present invention includes a screen which has an inner and an outer glass layers. The inner layer is made of lead-free glass whereas the outer layer is made of lead-containing glass. In the operational cathode ray tube of the present invention, the electron beams emitted therein, are absorbed by the inner layer without substantial browning, since the inner layer does not contain material that cause browning, and do not penetrate to the lead-containing outer layer. At the same time, the X-rays produced in the cathode ray tube are effectively and efficiently blocked by the lead-containing outer layer.
