    Abstract: A tubular LED light source, based on a tube manufactured in a heat conducting material (1). The LED's (2) are mounted on a part of the outer surface of the tube. The connectors makes it possible to install the light source in existing fluorescent tube fittings, as a direct replacement for fluorescent tubes. There is vacuum (20) inside the tube, so that no damaging condensed water is generated in cold environments. The control electronics can turn on/off and adjust the light level from LED's, and adjust the color components (RGB) of the light. Hereby different color temperatures can be generated.

    Abstract: An illumination device having an elongate bulb and an outer casing substantially coextensive with the bulb and surrounding the same. The elongated bulb is a CCFL which generally has a glass bead containing an iron electrode embedded in the center and attached to both ends thus sealing the elongate bulb. The end of the CCFL bulb will have the iron electrode bent over and in contact with an outside surface of the bulb and then have a coil spring connector arranged over the end of the bulb. Thus, the backlight device (2) can dissipate the heat of the LEDs (22) without requiring a conventional heat dissipating mechanism (heat dissipating plate, heat pipe, heat sink, and cooling fan) constituted with a large number of parts to be mounted below the LEDs (22). As a result, the backlight device (2) is reduced in thickness, weight, and cost, with a reduction in light-emitting efficiency of the LEDs (22) minimized.

    Abstract: The LED light tube is adapted to replace a fluorescent light tube which is mounted in a fluorescent light tube fixture. These fixtures have first and second socket end mounts and each end mount mechanically accepts a bi-pin or other common connector for the fluorescent light tube. The fluorescent fixture is supplied with a main power line. In the present invention, the main power line may carry 110 to 277 volts. However, the present invention utilizes main power feed only to the first socket end mount of the fluorescent fixture and further maintains an open circuit between the main line power and the second socket end mount. The LED light tube includes an elongated tubular structure substantially the size and length of the fluorescent light tube and extends between the first and second end mounts of the fixture. Within an end region of the tubular structure and adjacent the first tube end mount, an internal power supply converts the main line power to LED bank power.

    Abstract: An intelligent light fixture facilitates the use of a ‘universal’ light bulb having a wattage rating. A lamp dimmer circuit disposed within the fixture is in electrical communication between the AC line and a socket. A bulb test circuit within the fixture is operative to determine the maximum wattage of the bulb. A controller, also within the fixture includes a wattage select input. The controller is operative to determine the maximum wattage of the bulb using the bulb test circuit, compare the maximum wattage to the wattage select input and, if the maximum wattage is greater than the wattage select input, control the dimmer circuit to ensure that the power delivered to the bulb does not exceed the wattage select input. The bulb test circuit may determine the maximum wattage of the bulb by measuring the resistance of the bulb's filament or alternatively, by temporarily impressing line voltage across the bulb and measuring the current drawn by the bulb's filament.
