  • Patent number: 6041512
Abstract: An apparatus for measuring sidewall thickness of a container includes a support coupled to a first motor for holding the container in stationary position while rotating the container about its axis. A gauge mechanism engages opposed interior and exterior points on the sidewall of the container, and provides an electrical signal as a function of sidewall thickness between such points. A second motor is coupled to the gauge mechanism for moving the gauge mechanism in the direction of the container axis. A controller is coupled to the first and second motors, and is responsive to the electrical signal from the gauge mechanism for obtaining and storing a three-dimensional data map of sidewall thickness at increments of motion of both the first and second motors. Thus, there is provided thickness data related to angular orientation and axial position, which can then be analyzed to identify specific problems associated with container manufacture.

  • Patent number: 6026583
Abstract: A shape measuring apparatus includes an object measuring device, a holding base, a reference plane measuring device, and a length measuring unit. The holding base holds an object-to-be-measured on its surface and has a reference plane provided on its back side so that a measured surface of the object and the reference plane can be simultaneously scanned by the object measuring device and the reference plane measuring device, respectively. Therefore, the object and the reference plane can sway integrally with each other, and the accuracy of measurement of the measured surface is not influenced by any moving straightness deviation of the holding base unless any change occurs in relative positions of the reference plane and the measured surface. Therefore, the shape of the measured surface can be measured with the flatness accuracy of the reference plane.

Abstract: The instrument comprises two rigid yokes 1 and 2 capable of sliding one with respect to the other in the direction of the clearances to be measured between two components (R, 5) and 8. First of all, using an operating member 3, enough force to bring the ball R against the stop b1 of its socket is exerted on the component 5 by means of a spring 10. The comparator 9 is zeroed. Enough force is then exerted on the component 5 to bring the ball R to rest on the opposite stop b2 of its socket, this being done using an operating member 4 that acts in the opposite sense, the clevis mount 8 still being held between two resting faces 6, 7 of the yokes 1, 2. The clearance of the ball R in its socket is then read directly off the comparator 9. Application to measuring clearances in ball joints.

Plungers carried by the holding block opposite the curved surface clamp the test strip between the spring loaded plungers and the curved surface. The holding block is undercut to accommodate the test strip so that the weight of the holding block is not borne by the test strip and the test strip is retained on the supporting surface by the force of the spring loaded plungers clamping the test strip against the curved surface. Since the weight of the holding block is not borne by the test strips, the holding force is constant and the weight of the holding block does not corrupt measurement of the deflection of the test strip.

Abstract: The method and apparatus for positioning a semiconductor wafer incorporates an X.Y axis drive mechanism for moving a mounting bed with a rotary part mounted on the mounting bed for supporting a wafer horizontally and rotating around the vertical axis. An edge portion distance measuring device optically measures a distance from the center position of the rotary part to the edge portion of the wafer along intervals of a definite angle. A distance and angle calculating device calculates a distance between the center position of the wafer and the rotational center of the rotary part relative to a reference line, and an angle of a line connecting the center position of the wafer and the rotational center of the rotary part with respect to the reference line. A notched portion calculating device calculates a deflection angle of the notched portion of the wafer with respect to the reference line, and a deflection amount calculating device calculates the X.

  • Patent number: 5307149
Abstract: A method for part placement of a semiconductor chip for inspection where the semiconductor chip has a plurality of leads defining a seating plane and a body having a top. The method includes the steps of placing the body on a platform in an up position where the plurality of leads are suspended and probing the top of the body. Next measuring the position of the top of the body with reference to a predetermined coordinate system is done. Then the part is moved until the part is suspended on the plurality of leads on a reference plane. The top of the body is then probed for a second time, and the second position of the top of the body is measured with reference to the predetermined coordinate system. The thickness of the part is then determined as the distance between the top of the part and its seating plane.

Abstract: A core 4 is mounted on a machine tool for indexable rotation about an axis 2A, so as to bring respective cassettes 10 into position where they can be operated on by tools held in the machine tool spindle 6. The cassettes 10 may hold workpieces 14,14A for machining. After machining, the workpiece 14A is measured by a probe 20 held in the machine tool spindle 6. A pre-calibrated artifact 26 held on another cassette 10 is then indexed into the same position as previously occupied by the workpiece 14A, and comparative measurements are made of the artifact. The accuracy of these comparative measurements is increased because the artifact 26 resides on the machine tool in the same thermal environment as the workpiece during the machining, and because the measurements are made in the same position within the working volume of the machine tool, so that the same regions of the machine tool's measurement scales are utilized.
