Opposed Contacts Patents (Class 33/783)
  • Patent number: 5022267
Abstract: The diametral variations around the circumference of a bearing roller are measured by mechanical-to-electrical transducers which convert the diametral variations into electrical signals which are functions of the variations. The frequencies of the electric signals are converted into electric spikes which are proportional to the actual effect on roller noise of the frequency represented by each spike. The spikes are electrically added and a print is made of a value which is proportional to the expected noise the roller will produce when used in a roller bearing.

  • Patent number: 4993169
Abstract: A gaging device will measure the widths between opposed seat faces in an orifice fitting. The orifice fitting has a body with flow passages for connecting into a pipeline. A seat slot locates in the flow passage. A carrier will move from an upper chamber in the body downward into the seat slot. When gaging, deformable plugs will be mounted to the carrier. The plugs have dimensions that are greater than the width of the slot. Each plug will deform as the carrier moves into the seat slot. When the carrier is removed from the seat slot, the plugs can be measured to determine the widths of the seat slot at various points.

  • Patent number: 4977685
Abstract: A thickness gauge particularly adapted to measuring flatness of conductive sheets such as a steel workpiece. The tester includes a pair of opposed members translatable toward each other for supporting first and second planar electrical contacts. One of the contacts is disposed to support the workpiece to be gauged, and an electrical circuit is connected to the pair of contacts, to be completed when the contacts are both in contact with the workpiece. Means are provided for maintaining the parallelism of the contacts while relatively displacing them toward each other. Upon completion of the circuit, means are provided for determining the gap between the contacts which is a measure of the thickness and out-of-flatness of the sheet across the measured plane.

  • Patent number: 4974333
Abstract: The edge to edge width of a moving workpiece is measured as the workpiece is transferred over horizontal table rolls between a pair of spaced apart generally horizontal sideguards extending perpendicularly of the axes of the table rolls. A pair of opposed arms have generally vertical central portions with the upper ends of the arms rotatably mounted to the sideguards about horizontal axes which extend in lengthwise vertical planes along the sideguards. The arms rotate in transverse vertical planes extending between the table rolls and transverse to the direction in which the workpiece moves. Contact rollers adapted to contact the opposed edges of the workpiece are supported at the lower ends of the rotatably mounted arms such that each contact roller contacts a workpiece edge in a transverse vertical plane within about 25.degree. of a lengthwise vertical plane when the center of gravity of the arm and contact roller structure is within about 20.degree. of the lengthwise vertical plane.

  • Patent number: 4974327
Abstract: A thread gaging device has three thread gage rollers mounted 120 degrees apart from each other. Two horizontal arms extend outward from the base. One of the rollers mounts to one arm and the other two rollers mount to the other arm. The two rollers on the one arm can slide horizontally relative to each other to select the positions. Also, the two rollers can be repositioned vertically relative to the other roller to a selected position. The front of the rollers is pivotal relative to the base. An indicator will measure the amount of pivotal movement to gage a threaded fastener inserted between the rollers.

  • Patent number: 4969275
Abstract: The apparatus of this invention comprises parallel table surface portions with an elongated slot therebetween. A carriage mean is mounted below the two table surfaces and has an upstanding pin extending therefrom and extending into the slot and slightly above the table surface. A spring extending from a support arm through which the pin extends and a washer affixed to the pin normally causes the pin to be in its uppermost protruding position. A lever is affixed to the lower end of the pin to compress the spring to cause the pin to retract within the slot. • Patent number: 4958442
Abstract: For a measuring device, a boom, rotatable arm, guide arm and cross beam form a parallel crank drive which is mounted so as to be swivelable about the vertical axis of a supporting column. A clamping device for the rotatable arm makes it possible to use only a single drive for both a coarse swivel motion and a precision swivel motion for precision adjustment in order to home in on the measuring position. Measuring probes are attached to measuring support bars that are mounted on the cross beam, and are movable in vertical direction.

  • Patent number: 4841224
Abstract: A probe for determining the thickness of an interface gap between two surfaces is disclosed. The probe includes an inflatable bladder, which can be inserted into a gap and inflated, such that the sides of the bladder contact the planes. A distance-measuring device is mounted within the cavity of the bladder and is suitable for measuring the distance between the sides of the bladder. Passive electrical circuitry for use as the distance-measuring device is also disclosed. Passive electrical circuitry has an electrical property that varies as the distance between the passive electrical elements varies. In the case of a probe utilizing capacitive circuitry, three relationally positioned measuring electrodes and a common electrode are mounted within the bladder cavity such that the measuring and common electrical are in facing relationship and move away from each other as the bladder is inflated. When the bladder is inflated with a dielectric fluid, the electrodes are pressed flat against the surfaces.
