  • Patent number: 7688169
Abstract: A long-proportional-stroke force motor which outputs force proportional to the exciting current. The motor has a magnetic circuit wherein a non-magnetic spacer is positioned axially between a magnetic guide and a magnetic sleeve. An armature moves within a central opening defined by the guide, the spacer and the sleeve. An end portion of the guide, adjacent to the spacer, has a sectional profile through a stepped surface facing radially outward and the corners of the steps define a curve which satisfies the following expressions: ? Y ? X > 0 , ? ? 2 ? Y ? X 2 > 0 , where X is a coordinate on an X-axis corresponding to a central axis of the guide; wherein the armature is moved in a direction along the X-axis by application of exciting current to a coil surrounding the guide, spacer and sleeve; and Y is a coordinate on an axis orthogonal to the X-axis.

Abstract: An electromagnetic actuator includes a coil, which is formed in an annular shape, a plunger, and a stator, which receives the coil inside the stator and forms a magnetic circuit along inner and outer circumferences of the coil through the plunger. The stator includes first and second stators. The first stator includes a magnetic attraction portion that attracts the plunger in an axial direction of the plunger by magnetic force generated by the coil, and a first yoke portion that covers the outer circumference of the coil. The second stator includes a radial direction magnetism delivery-receipt portion that delivers magnetism in a radial direction of the plunger to and receives magnetism in the radial direction from the plunger, and a second yoke portion that covers the outer circumference of the coil. The first yoke portion and the second yoke portion overlap in the axial direction and are magnetically joined.

Abstract: A latching solenoid includes a pole member, an armature movable relative to the pole member, a solenoid coil assembly for positioning the armature relative to the pole member, and a magnetic flux shunt structure. The shunt structure bridges the air gap between the pole face and the armature face, providing a low reluctance magnetic flux path between the pole member and the armature to increase the attractive force between the armature and the pole member. The shunt structure can be a saturation tip formed integrally with the armature or a separate flux shunt member configured as a ring which is fixed to the armature. The armature can be maintained latched by the effects of residual magnetism or by a permanent magnet.

  • Patent number: 6374814
Abstract: The valve has a solenoid actuator and a position sensor providing an electric signal of the position of the solenoid armature. The solenoid is an electromagnet coil disposed on a plastic bobbin. The magnetic circuit contains a stator member having a flange disposed against a flange of the bobbin, and the position sensor has a plastic housing having a base that captures the stator member flange against the bobbin flange. The stator member flange contains apertures through which non-metallic material that joins with the bobbin flange passes to join with the position sensor housing base, thereby uniting the bobbin and the position sensor housing in assembly capturing the stator member flange. The assembly may be fabricated by an insert molding method or a method in which joining material is melted.

  • Patent number: 6198369
Abstract: A proportional actuator for proportional control includes a saturation tip formed on the movable armature the solenoid coil is a step-wound coil, providing clearance for the saturation tip, allowing the coaxial diameters the magnetic pole piece and of the armature to be increased for an actuator of a given size so that the amount of force which can be produced by this type of magnetic circuit is related to the coaxial diameters of the magnetic pole piece and the armature, the configuration of the armature provides significantly higher magnetic force attraction between the magnetic pole piece and the armature because of the increased coaxial diameters of the armature and the pole piece. In addition, because of the increased diameter of the armature, the surface area of the armature that is exposed to the saturation tip is increased, thereby increasing the amount of flux that is coupled to the magnetic pole piece by the saturation tip.

  • Patent number: 6155503
Abstract: The improved solenoid actuator assembly of the present invention includes a solenoid stator assembly positioned in an actuator housing and a flux dissipation reducing feature which minimizes flux leakage into the housing thereby maximizing the attractive force and minimizing the response time. The flux dissipation reducing feature includes a slot formed in the housing adjacent each outer face of the solenoid stator pole pieces thereby avoiding a metallic housing wall into which leakage may occur. The slots also permit the cross sectional area of the pole pieces to be maximized thereby increasing the available attractive force. The solenoid stator assembly requires only a single housing which functions to directly support the laminate stack assembly without an intermediate housing while also functioning as an injector body component subject to the compressive assembly load of the injector and including high pressure fuel passages.
