  • Patent number: 8774707
Abstract: A wireless node that bridges a wireless communications gap between a first wireless device, such as a smart meter, and a wireless network, such as a smart grid network, by repeating wireless communications received by the wireless node. The wireless node is integrated with another powered device common to buildings to provide a clandestine improvement to wireless communications. Additionally, the wireless node may effect testing of the powered device and provide results of the test wirelessly to remote devices. The wireless node may take the form of an exit sign, an emergency light, a speaker, and a combination of one or more of these devices. The wireless node may also track power consumption of the repeater portion of the wireless node to provide billing credit to power consumers.

  • Patent number: 8742955
Abstract: In step ST11 of FIG. 5, a map image is displayed. In step ST12, moving-route marks are added to the map image. In step ST13, image-pickup-position marks are added to the map image. In step ST14, a current position mark is added to the map image. In step ST15, a predetermined range is determined based on an image-pickup position. Furthermore, predetermined ranges are determined based on a moving route and a current position. In step ST16, the number of types of landmark sign to be included in the map image is reduced in ranges other than the predetermined ranges. Since landmark signs which are positioned far from the image-pickup position, the moving route, and the current position and which are not important for a user are not added to the map image, map display is performed while display of the landmark signs is optimized.

Abstract: The present invention comprises methods and systems of a network of sensor devices to monitor environmental conditions. Each sensor device is capable of acquiring environmental data and transmitting the data to a central controller of a networking system by wireless communication. By processing the environmental data obtained from the geographically deployed sensor devices, the central controller is capable of detecting a trend of the hazardous condition. The central controller generates early warning signals based on the hazardous levels of the physical or environmental conditions, as well as the trend of such conditions. When receiving a high level of hazardous conditions from one of the networked sensor devices, the central controller can compare the results with neighboring sensor devices to determine whether the signal received is due to a hazard leakage or a sensor device malfunction, so to reduce false alarms and provide feedbacks to communication devices networked in the system.

The memory may include a library of commands for commanding functional operations of the appliance. The remote control device may include a user interface operable to cause the at least one processor to transmit one or more of the commands to the appliance. Appearance of the remote control may change when the illumination device changes illumination colors.

Abstract: According to one embodiment, a display unit displays a screen of a medical application. An acquisition unit acquires a plurality of values used in the medical application and belonging respectively to a plurality of monitoring items set in advance. A determination unit determines whether the acquired values satisfy a matching determination rule for relevance of presence or absence of a change in a value of a reference item among a plurality of monitoring items in the medical application and presence or absence of a change in a value of the other item. An alerting unit controls the display unit to display an alert when it is determined by the determination unit that the acquired values do not satisfy the matching determination rule.

Abstract: In an embodiment, a display system and method configured to be used for providing a user with information regarding the operating conditions of the vehicle. The system comprises a sensor that is configured to measure an operating condition of the vehicle, wherein the sensor provides a measurement signal based on the measured operating condition. The system includes a processor which is coupled to the sensor and configured to receive the measurement signal. The system includes a display module, preferably an organic light emitting diode (OLED), which is mounted to the vehicle, wherein the OLED displays sensor data received from the processor which is associated with the measurement signal and is to be read by a user. The sensor data is selectively displayed in compliance with a customizably programmable display profile, whereby the user is able to create and transfer the display profile in which form desired.

  • Patent number: 8502679
Abstract: A non-invasive motion and respiration monitor receives impulses from a subject's movement, heartbeat, and respiration. The raw signal is biased and digitized, and a signal processor applies a Fast Fourier Transform to the signal. The transformed signal is filtered to isolate the component representing heart rate from the component representing respiration. An Inverse Fast Fourier Transform is then applied to the component signals, which are sent to a processor. The processor is programmed to detect irregularities in the respiration and heart rate. If severe irregularities or complete cessation is detected in either signal, a mechanical stimulator is actuated to try to stimulate the subject, and an alarm is sounded to alert a caregiver such as a parent or nurse.

Abstract: An approach to cable management is presented. A bi-stable liquid crystal display that requires no power to maintain an image is attached to a communications cable. A bi-stable liquid crystal display may be attached to each end of the cable. The bi-stable liquid crystal displays may be built into the connectors. A display module connects to the bi-stable liquid crystal display and receives signals associated with a message about the communications cable. The display module causes messages to be shown on the bi-stable liquid crystal display in response to receiving the signal. The signal may be generated by a user with a hand held driver. The signal may also be generated automatically by computing devices (such as switches) that are attached to the communications cable. Users may easily determine information about the communications cable by looking at the messages on the bi-stable liquid crystal displays.
