    Abstract: An energy constrained device (100) includes a motion sensor (150) operative to detect motion of the device (100); a device position determinator (130); and a controller (110) operatively coupled at the motion sensor (150) and to the device position determinator (130) and operative to receive a device location request for the energy constrained device (100), to determine whether the energy constrained device (100) has moved based on the motion sensor (150), and to determine whether to request position information from the device position determinator (130) based on device movement. A method for saving power for a device position determinator (130) in a energy constrained device (100) includes determining whether position information has been requested from the device position determinator (130); and if not so, automatically switching the device position determinator (130) to a low power consumption mode.

    Abstract: In a tamper detection system, a control system controls power consumption by sensors and power consumption of a state machine that controls operations of the sensors. A first state machine controls which sensor is activated. A second state machine controls the operations performed by the activated sensor and the operations are timed according to a clock signal. Prior to activating a sensor, the second state machine is in a wait state. The clock signal is gated so that the logic state of the clock signal does not change when the second state machine is in a wait state. Power consumption by the state machine is reduced by gating the clock signal so that the clock signal is held to a fixed value. Immediately after the activated sensor performs all operations, the second state machine samples the pass or fail result from the sensor.

The requirements stipulate ability to tolerate inrush when activating strobe lights and horns of ten times the nominal output, while limiting short-circuit drive in AUX mode to eight amperes after five seconds. The novel power supply improves on the requirements, first by continuously testing for overcurrent NAC status and signaling faults in real time, and second by shutting off AUX drive in event of a short and retrying periodically without a requirement for manual reset. Thus testing for wiring errors is rendered safer and nondestructive, and correction of a wiring error can be quicker.
