Abstract: An improved pager with a touch-sensitive display screen and method for transmitting a message therefrom is provided. Inputting a message onto the touch-sensitive display screen greatly facilitates sending a message from the pager and is more versatile than using navigation or soft keys to transmit built-in messages or using a small keyboard to type in messages. The pager of the preferred embodiments is operative to convert the inputted symbols into a text message and transmit the text message to a paging network. Because the pager transmits the content represented by the inputted symbols, the pager of the preferred embodiments is more versatile than pagers using ink-based systems, which merely transmit the image of the inputted symbol. If the pager is equipped with a browser application, the message from the pager can take the form of a request to a server located in a telecommunication network.

  • Patent number: 6515578
Abstract: A radio paging receiver with a message display function according to the present invention can display and memorize two or more messages. The radio paging receiver with a message display function comprises a message control unit. The message control unit includes first and second character tables and a message memory. The first and second character tables are for displaying the messages with first and second character types, respectively. The messages stored in the message memory are displayed on the display window in either one of a multiple message display mode or a single message display mode. The message control unit displays the reception messages with the characters of either the first or second character type when the multiple message display mode is selected. When the single message display mode is selected, then only one of the messages is displayed on the window with the characters of the other of the first or second character type.

  • Patent number: 6496836
Abstract: A method using symbols to gather, store, retrieve, manipulate and report information, with attendant improvements in communication, efficiency and efficacy. A customer communication received by an organization is assigned a symbol on the basis of key words within the communication and/or a record of transaction between the customer and the organization. The communication is directed to a communication handler appropriate to the assigned symbol. Using symbols, the customer can provide inputs to the organization regarding satisfaction with the transaction; the organization can then compare these symbols with internally reported symbols to ascertain an accuracy level of the organization's perception of the transaction.

  • Patent number: 6392532
Abstract: In a wireless apparatus, a receiving unit receives a wireless signal, extracts a call number and a reception data subsequent to the call number from the received signal. Also, the receiving unit generates a determination signal indicative of whether a message reception mode or an information reception mode is set for the call number. A data converting unit performs a data conversion to the reception data based on a data conversion format for the call number to produce a new data when the determination signal indicates the information reception mode. A control unit displays the new data on a display unit.

  • Patent number: 6313736
Abstract: A method and apparatus in a selective call communication system is used for transmitting a message of a message type selected from non-maildrop and maildrop (504), wherein the message of maildrop type includes one of a plurality of categories of information. The controller (112) of the system is used for identifying the one of the plurality of categories of information to a user. The controller (112) transmits the message with an identifier (412, 414) for identifying one of a plurality of icons corresponding to the one of the plurality of categories of information. A selective call receiver (122) receives and decodes the message and the identifier (412, 414). The display (324) of the selective call receiver (122) is used for displaying the one of the plurality of icons, in response to receiving the identifier (412, 414).
