Abstract: A navigation receiver mounted on a moving vehicle receives navigation signals transmitted from global navigation satellites. The navigation signals are separated into direct navigation signals, navigation signals reflected from an object, and navigation signals reflected from an environmental surface. The signal separation is based on algorithms including various combinations of signal strength, change in signal strength, delay time, spectral width, change in spectral width, and user-defined thresholds. The navigation signals reflected from an environmental surface are eliminated from further processing. The position of the navigation receiver is calculated based on the direct navigation signals. The object is detected, and the position of the object is calculated, based on the navigation signals reflected from the object. If the object is determined to lie in the path of the moving vehicle, a command can be generated to avoid collision between the moving vehicle and the object.

Abstract: A portable tracking unit attached to a movable object, such as an animal's collar, includes a GPS receiver to receive GPS signals from multiple satellites for use in multilateration calculations in determining the current position of the tracking unit. A processor in the tracking unit processes the GPS data signals to determine the tracking unit's position, and a GSM mobile wireless transmitter is used to transmit the geographic coordinates of the tracking unit to a remote monitoring unit. The tracking unit also includes a motion detector that outputs a motion signal when the animal is on the move. A motion signal “wakes up” the processor that wakes up the GPS receiver and the GSM transmitter to begin calculating and transmitting the geographic coordinates of the tracking unit. The tracking unit also includes electrical generators configured to transduce mechanical motion of the tracking unit into electrical energy to recharge a battery and power devices.

By monitoring user activity with respect to the camera, such as activation of the camera, the device can begin pre-acquisition of a GPS position fix by obtaining needed ephemeris data before the photograph is actually taken. This GPS pre-acquisition improves the likelihood that a position fix (GPS lock) is achieved by the time the photo is taken (to enable immediate geotagging). Alternatively, the photo can be geotagged retroactively by appending the current location to the metadata tag associated with the digital photo. An optional acquisition status indicator can be displayed on a user interface of the device to indicate that a position fix is being obtained.

Abstract: System and method for detecting and storing at least speed as an information relevant for resignation for a tachograph system. to provide a tamperproof tachograph system offering a high degree of security. An arithmetic unit detects signals for determining the speed from at least two independent sensors and compares them with each other and stores a sensor-related error message if the signals deviate significantly from each other. The signals of at least three independent sensors are compared with each other in the arithmetic unit and are checked for their plausibility by excluding any signals that significantly deviate from a plurality of signals and determining the speed of the vehicle to be stored only using one or more of those signals that deviate from each other only within defined limits.
