Abstract: A hybrid workstation enables a virtual reality (VR) interface, a traditional (TD) interface, and transitions between the interfaces. The VR interface comprises three-dimensional (3D)-based software and hardware components. The TD interface comprises two-dimensional (2D)-based software and hardware components. The state of the hybrid workstation is defined by three parameters comprising interface (VR interface or TD interface), position (seated or standing), and movement (stationary or room-scale). The hybrid workstation detects a transition from a current state to a next state upon determining that any of the three parameters have changed. The hybrid workstation then determines a transition response based on the particular transition that is detected. The transition response comprises a set of operations that are performed on the VR interface and/or the TD interface that mitigate the disruption and inefficiency caused when the particular transition occurs.

Abstract: A mobile computing device runs multiple activities concurrently and provides at least two modes for interacting with the activities. The user may toggle between the modes as desired. In a full-screen mode, one activity occupies substantially an entire display screen. In a windowed mode, the activity is visible within a window, and a portion of at least one other window is also visible. In the windowed mode, the user can cause windows to move, thereby changing focus from one activity to another. For example, the window having focus can be moved off the screen, to be replaced by a new window that is then given focus. The windows are ordered in a sequence and move in concert with one another; pushing one window off one edge of the screen causes a new window to appear at the opposite edge. A persistent positional relationship can be established among windows.

Abstract: A method for determining a proportion of an area in a computer-generated scene that is visible to a user on a display of a handheld device configured to receive touch-based inputs. A location of the area in the computer-generated scene visible on the display of the handheld device is determined, and a touch-based input to the display of the handheld device is detected. A representation of the one touch-based input detected by the handheld device is generated and an intersection between the representation of the location of the touch-based input on the display of the handheld device, and a representation of the area at the location is determined. The intersection indicates the proportion of the area not visible to the user of the handheld device. An indication representative of the intersection is then transmitted to a remote server.

Abstract: Systems and methods are described herein for displaying subjects of a portion of content and searching for content related to a particular subject in the content. Media data of content is analyzed during playback, and a number of audio signatures are identified. Each audio signature is associated, based on audio characteristics, with a particular subject within the content. The audio signature is stored, along with a timestamp corresponding to a playback position at which the audio signature begins, in association with an identifier of the particular subject. Upon receiving a command, icons representing each of a number of audio signatures at or near the current playback position are displayed. Upon receiving user selection of an icon corresponding to a particular signature, a portion of the content corresponding to the audio signature is played back or a search is performed for content related to the signature represented by the selected icon.

  • Patent number: 11868537
Abstract: Systems and techniques are described for robust radar-based gesture-recognition. A radar system detects radar-based gestures on behalf of application subscribers. A state machine transitions between multiple states based on inertial sensor data. A no-gating state enables the radar system to output radar-based gestures to application subscribers. The state machine also includes a soft-gating state that prevents the radar system from outputting the radar-based gestures to the application subscribers. A hard-gating state prevents the radar system from detecting radar-based gestures altogether. The techniques and systems enable the radar system to determine when not to perform gesture-recognition, enabling user equipment to automatically reconfigure the radar system to meet user demand. By so doing, the techniques conserve power, improve accuracy, or reduce latency relative to many common techniques and systems for radar-based gesture-recognition.
