Abstract: The efficiency of shading and rendering processes can be improved through implementing object oriented programming for shading program languages. Computer graphics data representing a geometric model in a scene are determined and assigned to object oriented classes and subclasses and are subsequently sorted and grouped into several (e.g., two or more) groups based on the classification information. Once the computer graphics data are assigned in a class and/or subclasses and grouped, a shader interpreter implements SIMD operators on each group of data values.

Abstract: This patent relates to thin plate spline (TPS)-based interpolation techniques for representing free-flowing vector graphics (VG) images based on user-specified features, such as points and curves. One or more features can be identified in a pixel grid. A higher-order least squares interpolating function with a TPS smoothness objective can then be utilized to interpolate individual color values to individual pixels of the pixel grid. Smoothness terms of the function that impose smoothness penalties can be interrupted in certain regions of the pixel grid based on attributes of the user-specified features. For example, a curve attribute can specify a particular color value(s), add or remove a smoothness penalty, or anisotropically impose a first derivative constraint in a particular direction.

  • Patent number: 8886445
Abstract: The invention is a system and method of compressing a DTM to be used in an Auto-GCAS system using a semi-regular geometric compression algorithm. In general, the invention operates by first selecting the boundaries of the three dimensional map to be compressed and dividing the three dimensional map data into regular areas. Next, a type of free-edged, flat geometric surface is selected which will be used to approximate terrain data of the three dimensional map data. The flat geometric surface is used to approximate terrain data for each regular area. The approximations are checked to determine if they fall within selected tolerances. If the approximation for a specific regular area is within specified tolerance, the data is saved for that specific regular area. If the approximation for a specific area falls outside the specified tolerances, the regular area is divided and a flat geometric surface approximation is made for each of the divided areas.

When at least one tile contains pixels having the same value for at least one predetermined parameter, the caching bit and the corresponding tile pattern bits may be active. Apparatuses generally include a pixel memory, a cache memory, and a controller including logic configured to reserve the caching bit, tile pattern bits, and same pixel values in cache memory when the caching bit is active.

Abstract: A method of processing video signals containing multiple images. The method comprises dividing a first image into regions and associating a first plurality of regions of the first image with a first image layer and a second plurality of regions of the first image with a second image layer. Motion estimation is performed on pixel values that are derived from pixel values associated with the first image layer, substantially in isolation from pixel values associated with the second image layer, to generate a first motion vector field, and the first motion vector field is used to perform motion-compensated processing on pixel values that are derived from pixel values associated with the first image layer. The result of the motion-compensated processing is combined with pixel values that are derived from pixel values associated with the second image layer to generate an output image.

  • Patent number: 8767005
Abstract: A blend unit in a display pipe for processing pixels of video and/or image frames may include multiple blend stages, where each blend stage may include multiple levels for blending pixels according to a blend equation. The blending operation includes blending pixel color values and Alpha values. A multiplication may be performed at each blend level, necessitating Alpha value normalizations in the form of divisions to obtain pixel color values having a specified bit-length. Color value normalizations are not needed when the desired result is an actual color value. In order to reduce the compounding of errors that may result from the introduction of an error at each division, Alpha value normalizations may not be performed at each blend level, carrying the intermediate results forward in fractional form—through one or multiple blend stages—until the end of the blending operation.
