Abstract: One embodiment of the present invention sets forth a technique for improved rasterization of round points mapped into a tile space within a graphics processing pipeline. A set of candidate tiles are selected based on proximity to a round point. A tile within the set of candidate tiles may be rejected based on a rejection boundary. A tile may be rejected if no vertex associated with the tile is within the coverage area. Performance is improved by rejecting certain unneeded tiles that would otherwise be included in conventional rasterization. One embodiment advantageously enlists line drawing circuitry to determine whether a given tile intersects the coverage area.

Abstract: Apparatus, systems and methods for handling portrait mode oriented display surfaces without requiring expensive hardware in the display sub-system are disclosed. For example, an apparatus is disclosed such that the rendering of graphics data to the portrait mode display surfaces is redirected at rendering time such that there is no need for adding complicated hardware in the display part of the graphics adapter in order to handle conventional displays—all of which have no circuitry to deal with data natively stored in a portrait mode surface. Additionally, an apparatus to handle direct surface access of a surface through a surface lock which has already been rotated is already described. This can either be done by copying of surface data or by an optimized proposed apparatus which eliminates this copy. Other implementations are also disclosed.

Abstract: Amalgamated maps, comprising interior maps overlaid on venues indicated in general maps can be automatically generated. Initially, interior maps can be obtained through targeted network searches, whose search results can be filtered to retain those that are most likely useable interior maps. A bounding polygon is generated for both interior map and venue exterior from general map. Subsequently, directional histograms representing orientations of lines in bounding polygons are generated and compared to automatically identify a rotation to align the interior map with the venue exterior from the general map. Anchor points are identified to locally deform the interior map, preserving internal structures, to better align with the venue exterior. Once aligned, the interior map can be combined with the general map, forming an amalgamated map. Updated geocoding can be performed based on locations of establishments in the venue as indicated by the interior map.

Abstract: A display that renders realistic objects allows a designer to redesign a living space in real time based on an existing layout. A computer system renders simulated objects on the display such that the simulated objects appear to the viewer to be in substantially the same place as actual objects in the scene. The displayed simulated objects can be spatially manipulated on the display through various user gestures. A designer can visually simulate a redesign of the space in many ways, for example, by adding selected objects, or by removing or rearranging existing objects, or by changing properties of those objects. Such objects also can be associated with shopping resources to enable related goods and services to be purchased, or other commercial transactions to be engaged in.

  • Patent number: 8712445
Abstract: Displaying a map on a wireless communications device includes steps of obtaining map data for rendering the map to be displayed on the wireless communications device, determining a rotation that, when applied to the map, will orient a selected path in a selected direction, such as a current direction of travel, generating a corrected rotation by applying a spherical correction factor, e.g. based on a current location, and rendering the map on a display of the wireless communications device by applying the corrected rotation. The spherical correction factor corrects for map distortions that occur at high latitudes for paths that are neither purely north-south or east-west. When such a path is rotated to face upward to show direction of travel, the path needs to be straightened by applying the spherical correction factor.

Abstract: A method and system displaying the output from an application on a fixed orientation display is disclosed. The method is performed at an application stored on an electronic device. The application sends a request to display output from the application in a second orientation with second dimensions. The application receives from the electronic device a notification that a display associated with the electronic device is a fixed orientation display with a first orientation and first dimensions and a notification that the requested second orientation and second dimensions are different from the first orientation. The application then determines optimal dimensions to display the output from the application based on the first orientation and first dimensions associated with the fixed display. The application then scales output data to match the determined optimal dimensions. The application then sends the scaled output data to the device for display on the fixed display.
