  • Patent number: 8866729
Abstract: A method of driving a light source unit of a liquid crystal display panel according to an exemplary embodiment of the present disclosure includes the steps of calculating average and maximum values of image signals applied to the liquid crystal panel; calculating a representative value of the image signals using the average and maximum values; determining the luminance of the light source unit according to the representative value and driving the light source unit accordingly. The representative value may be calculated from Lrep=(1??)×Lavg+?×Lmax, where Lrep is a representative value, Lavg is an average value, Lmax is the maximum value, and ? is a value that decreases as a difference between the maximum and average image signal values increases, and has a range between 0 and 1.

  • Patent number: 8847859
Abstract: A method is provided of determining the pixel drive signals to be applied to the pixels of an array of light emitting display elements arranged in rows and columns, with a plurality of the pixels in a row being supplied with current simultaneously along a respective row conductor. Target pixel drive currents are determined from a model of the pixel current-brightness characteristics. These are modified to take account of the voltage on the respective row conductor at each pixel resulting from the currents drawn from the row conductor by the plurality of pixels and the dependency of the pixel brightness characteristics on the voltage on the row conductor at the pixel. This addresses the problem of horizontal cross-talk that occurs in active matrix LED displays due to the finite output impedance of the current providing TFTs as well as the finite resistance of metals used to form power supply lines.

Abstract: This disclosure provides systems, methods and apparatus, including computer programs encoded on computer storage media, for halftoning video images for presentation on an electronic display. In one aspect, input frames of video data may be received, where each input frame includes a number of input pixels, each input pixel having a respective first spatial coordinate location. For each input pixel, an output pixel is generated using a selected halftone value. The selected halftone value is substantially identical to a halftone value of a corresponding pixel in a comparison frame, where a spatial coordinate location of the “corresponding pixel” is determined based on a motion vector of an image element with which the pixel is associated.

Abstract: The display device includes an anti-reflection film having a plurality of projections over a display screen surface and a protective layer filling a space between the projections. The number of times of incidence of external light entering the display device on the anti-reflection film is increased; therefore, the amount of external light transmitted through the anti-reflection film is increased. Thus, the amount of external light reflected to a viewer side is reduced, and the cause of a reduction in visibility such as reflection can be eliminated. Further, since the plurality of projections is covered with a protective layer, entry of dust can be prevented, and physical strength of the anti-reflection film can be increased.
