Patent number: 5353049Abstract: A paper holder assembly has an axle coaxially positionable to extend axially outwardly from axially opposite bases of a platen drum providing a circumferential outer surface disposed between the opposite bases, the axle has circumferential grooves terminated by corresponding flanges. A pair of brackets each having three arms joined together in a unitary monolithic structure with first and second arms defining a centrally disposed recess having spaced-apart curved sides are positioned to ride along corresponding ones of the circumferential grooves. A pivot pivotally connects the second arms to the opposite bases of the platen drum, and a paper holder extending from the distal portion of the third arm holds edges of sheets of paper against the circumferential outer surface projecting axially inwardly from distal ends of the third arms across the circumferential outer surface. Springs bias the bracket toward a first orientation relative to the pivot.Type: GrantFiled: May 5, 1992Date of Patent: October 4, 1994Assignee: SamSung Electronics Co., Ltd.Inventors: Kwang-Ho Ro, Moon-Bae Park

Patent number: 4849776Abstract: An electrostatic drum printer having a linear array of charging elements scanning a sheet of paper with a helical stripe pattern. The head is supported on a lead screw which advances the head as the drum rotates. The head writes an electrostatic latent image of digital words which visually appear as adjacent columns once the sheet is toned and laid flat. A toning shoe assembly is carried along with the head, with a single toning shoe, having a toner of a specified color, adjacent the head. When the head reaches the end of a scan, the head and shoe assembly is retracted for fly back to a starting position. A new toning shoe, having a toner of another color, may be indexed into position near the head. The retracted elements are pushed forward for starting another scan. With several scans, a color image may be recreated.Type: GrantFiled: August 6, 1985Date of Patent: July 18, 1989Assignee: Precision Image CorporationInventors: Arthur E. Bliss, Gene F. Day, Claus P. Patent number: 4278019Abstract: An all-points addressable dot printer has rows of sloped parallel anvils on a rotating drum. Alternate rows slope in opposite directions for bi-directional printing with a single row of hammer blades. The blades which are spaced apart, are shifted bi-directionally in synchronism with the scanning motion of the anvils to print dots at all dot line points. A second embodiment has a reciprocating comb bar located between the blades and a print medium. Spring fingers on the comb bar have dot forming protrusions. The spring fingers are uniformly spaced with center spacing equal to the center distances between the blades. Comb bar motion is linear with time along the line segments. Blade motion is simple harmonic.Type: GrantFiled: July 16, 1979Date of Patent: July 14, 1981Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventor: Johann H. Meier

Patent number: 4273040Abstract: Disclosed is an improved form of a mosaic printer of the bar helix type. The helical raised threads on the printer drum instead of being continuous are broken into segments which are offset axially on the drum. This produces a significant increase in throughput by reducing waiting time for the drum to rotate a section of continuous thread into alignment with a hammer at the start of a new helical pattern.Type: GrantFiled: September 28, 1979Date of Patent: June 16, 1981Assignee: International Business Machines CorporationInventors: Robert A. Patent number: 4263847Abstract: A dot matrix impact printer of the type which has a platen having a helical projection, a plurality of hammers arranged in the axial direction of the platen to cross the helical projection, and means for feeding an ink to the periphery of the helical projection. The platen is rotated and the hammer strikes the helical projection interposing the recording paper, so that dot matrix printing may be performed. In order to prevent the contamination of the recording paper with the ink, there is provided a separating member of resilient material along the helical projection. The periphery of the separating member is slightly higher than the helical projection, so that the recording paper is separated from the helical projection. The separating member is compressed by impacting the hammer so that the ink may be transferred to the paper.Type: GrantFiled: September 20, 1979Date of Patent: April 28, 1981Assignee: Citizen Watch Co., Ltd.Inventors: Toshio Kurihara, Nagao Mizutani, Tsutomu Iesaka

Patent number: 4227452Abstract: A printing machine comprising a cylindrical applicator has a spiral groove formed on the peripheral surface and is rotatable. A doctor blade used to wipe away excess ink and to insure adequate ink in the grooves. Electrodes are provided opposite the groove and paper is fed at a speed slower than the rotating peripheral speed of the applicator. A voltage related to the character to be printed is sequentially fed to the opposite electrodes to attract ink in the groove with the paper and print the character. In another embodiment a plurality of applicators are used with each applicator having a counter electrode having a stylus electrode array. As voltages are applied to the array the ink in the adjacent groove swells and contacts the paper. The voltages are staggered between the two electrode arrays. In a third embodiment, using multineedle electrodes raises the ink electrostaticly to the top portion of the applicator.Type: GrantFiled: October 13, 1978Date of Patent: October 14, 1980Assignee: Fuji Xerox Co., Ltd.Inventor: Masayoshi Tamai

Patent number: 4219825Abstract: A printing device for chronocomparators comprising a striker, an ironless cylindrical coil mounted for rotation in an air gap of a magnetic circuit and connected to the striker, the magnetic circuit being formed by a permanent magnet placed inside the coil and an outer part of magnetically permeable material surrounding the coil. The coil is connected through spiral springs to a source of electric control pulses. The spiral springs provide a return force for bringing the coil back to a rest position in the absence of a control pulse. A cylinder with a helical rib is placed to be stricken by the striker and a recording strip is inserted between the striker and the said cylinder.Type: GrantFiled: January 31, 1978Date of Patent: August 26, 1980Assignee: PortescapInventors: Marc Heyraud, Andre Martin

Patent number: 4205323Abstract: The resolution of an image that is produced by a graphic recorder is related to the rate that recording paper passes through a recording zone and the sweep rate is related to the rate at which a scanning electrode contacts the recording paper. According to the present invention, both the sweep rate and the resolution are simultaneously coordinated through the use of a ratchet wheel and pawl that are interconnected between the scanning electrode and feed rolls. The ratchet wheel is indexed through the movement of the scanning electrode and as the scanning electrode makes a sweep, the feed rolls are indexed by successive or multiply successive teeth in the ratchet wheel. An anti-backlash device is associated with the ratchet wheel to prevent the ratchet wheel and the feed rolls from reversing themselves during operation of the recorder.Type: GrantFiled: July 31, 1978Date of Patent: May 27, 1980Assignee: Alden Research FoundationInventors: George C. Patent number: 3948168Abstract: A printer for printing in alpha-numeric character form information from a digital source available in the form of a video-type signal representative of alpha-numeric characters corresponding to the digital information. The printer utilizes a high speed rotating spindle having at least one spiral electrical conductor on its periphery and means for forming a mark on a continuous sheet of paper in response to an electrical signal applied to the spiral conductor. The paper is moved past the spindle at a velocity proportional to, but substantially less than the tangential velocity of the spiral conductor. The video-signal is received into a double buffer memory and unloaded to the spiral conductors in phase sequence with the rotation of the spindle whereby a matrix of dots is formed on the paper in designated locations so as to produce alpha-numeric characters corresponding to the digital information.Type: GrantFiled: August 14, 1974Date of Patent: April 6, 1976Assignee: Willison K.
