Remote Control Patents (Class 348/14.05)
  • Patent number: 10349105
Abstract: Particular embodiments use a fast channel change (FCC) process that stores an amount of content at a network device for channels that are available to a subscriber. The network device can join video streams for channels to receive content for all the channels. The network device then stores a portion of the content for all the channels in storage. When the set-top box requests a channel change, the set-top box sends a join request for the requested channel to the network device. Then, the network device sends the stored content for the requested channel to the set-top box. The stored content allows the channel change to be performed faster because the stored content is sent at wire speed and then once the join of the channel is processed, the content for the channel that is received from the regular video stream can then be sent per the channel requirements.

  • Patent number: 10306323
Abstract: In aspects of fast television channel change initiated from a second screen device, a mobile device implemented as the second screen device can receive a navigation input in a viewport displayed on an integrated display of the mobile device. Video selection options for video content are displayed in the viewport on the integrated display of the mobile device responsive to the navigation input. A content display application on the mobile device can determine video identifiers of the video content for each of the video selection options displayed in the viewport, where each video identifier uniquely identifies a respective video content. The mobile device can then communicate the video identifiers to a first screen device, such as a television display device, that initiates a request to a video content server for initial video data corresponding to each of the video content based on the video identifiers received from the mobile device.

Abstract: Systems and methods for real-time collaborative computing and collective intelligence are disclosed. A collaborative application runs on a collaborative server connected to a plurality of computing devices. Collaborative sessions are run wherein a group of independent users, networked over the internet, collaboratively answer questions in real-time, thereby harnessing their collective intelligence. Methods are disclosed for assigning users to factions during a collaborative decision process, wherein the collaborative server repeatedly checks the input of each user with respect to a plurality of proposed answers and assigns the user to the faction associated with the answer the user is trying to select. Furthermore, user assessments are made based on a stored time-history of faction associations for that user during a decision period.

  • Patent number: 9456181
Abstract: A technique smartly displays video feeds during an online meeting. The technique involves receiving, by processing circuitry, a plurality of video feeds during the online meeting. The technique further involves selecting, by the processing circuitry, a group of video feeds from the plurality of video feeds during the online meeting. The number of video feeds in the group of video feeds is less than the number of video feeds in the plurality of video feeds. Additionally, the number of video feeds in the group is at least two. The technique further involves outputting, by the processing circuitry, the group of video feeds to an online meeting participant during the online meeting. Such a technique enables the number of participants of the online meeting to be essentially unlimited, where only the video feeds deemed most significant (e.g., based on scoring) are shared during the online meeting.

  • Patent number: 9420012
Abstract: Image data corresponding to an image captured by a communication terminal device is transmitted from a communication unit of the communication terminal device which is connected to a network to a counter party device which is a counter party of the teleconference. An image display setting indicating whether the captured image is displayed in the counter party device is acquired, according to transmission of the image data. When it is determined that the captured image is in a first state, and the image display setting indicating that the captured image is displayed is acquired, notification information is output from a notification unit of the communication terminal device. When it is determined that the captured image is in a second state, and the image display setting indicating that the captured image is not displayed is acquired, notification information is not output from the notification unit.

  • Patent number: 9390724
Abstract: A voice controlled assistant has a housing to hold one or more microphones, one or more speakers, and various computing components. The housing has an elongated cylindrical body extending along a center axis between a base end and a top end. The microphone(s) are mounted in the top end and the speaker(s) are mounted proximal to the base end. The microphone(s) and speaker(s) are coaxially aligned along the center axis. The speaker(s) are oriented to output sound directionally toward the base end and opposite to the microphone(s) in the top end. The sound may then be redirected in a radial outward direction from the center axis at the base end so that the sound is output symmetric to, and equidistance from, the microphone(s).
