Abstract: In general, in one aspect, the frames of a received video are analyzed using traditional film mode detection (continually capturing data and comparing the data to known parameters for various film modes) until a film mode is detected. Once the film mode is detected, the frames of the received video are analyzed using mode based tracking where measurements are continually predicted based on the mode detected and averaged with actual measurements. The use of the averaged measurements limit the effect of noise captured in the actual measurements. The averaged measurements are continually compared to known parameters for the detected mode to determine if the detected mode is still valid. If the detected mode is valid, the mode based tacking is continued. If the detected mode is no longer valid (e.g., averaged measurements not correlated with known parameters), the process returns to the traditional film mode detection.

Abstract: An image processing method comprises obtaining a current frame and a previous frame, performing a bilateral motion estimation to the current frame and the previous frame for acquiring a motion vector, and performing a motion compensated interpolation to the current frame, the previous frame and the motion vector for acquiring an interpolated frame. The bilateral motion estimation uses sum of bilateral absolute difference algorithm to generate at least one sum of bilateral absolute difference, and then an adaptive parameter is added to each of the sum of bilateral absolute difference to generate at least one adaptive sum of bilateral absolute difference. A group of matching blocks having a minimum adaptive sum of bilateral absolute difference is then determined to be the group of best matching blocks. The motion vector is obtained according to the relative locations of the best matching blocks.

Abstract: What is disclosed is a system and method for image reconstruction using a compressed sensing framework to increase the number of wavelength bands in hyperspectral video systems. The present method utilizes a restricted representation matrix and sampling matrix to reconstruct bands to a very large number without losing information content. Reference multi-band image vectors are created and those vectors are processed in a block-wise form to obtain custom orthonormal representation matrices. A sampling matrix is also constructed offline in the factory. The compressed sensing protocol is applied using a l1-norm optimization (or relaxation) algorithm to reconstruct large number of wavelength bands with each band being interspersed within the band of interest that are not imaged. The teaching hereof leads to very large number of bands without increasing the hardware cost.

Abstract: A video processing device may process video input comprising a plurality of streams, wherein images corresponding to at least some of the plurality of streams may be displayed concurrently. The video processing device may determine, prior to processing of a pixel in one of the plurality of streams whether the pixel comprises one or more keyed video parameters; and if the pixel comprises at least one keyed parameter, one or more other pixels may be selected, and a video parameter corresponding to the at least one keyed video parameter of the pixel may be generated based on the selected one or more other pixels. The generated video parameter may then be utilized instead of the at least one keyed video parameter during the processing of the pixel. This may comprise luma and/or chroma based scaling. Outputs of the processing of the pixel may be post-processed, by clamping at least one of the video parameters.

Abstract: Methods of performing stroke-to-raster video conversion having leading-edge error correction and/or falling-edge error correction are provided. Incoming data is pipelined before being written into a frame buffer. This allows each sample of data to be manipulated based on information obtained in samples that occur both before and after it. Highly accurate digital conversion of stroke video into a raster format having significantly reduced or eliminated noise and stray pixels from the video is therefore achieved.

Abstract: Implementations include methods and systems for a converting reference images or video to 3D images or video. A two-step conversion is described which accomplishes warping and hole filling on a pixel-by-pixel basis. In one implementation, of a plurality of pixel values of a reference image at a plurality of first collinear pixels locations are successively mapped to a respective plurality of second pixel locations of a destination image. Between two of the mappings, a location of a hole between two of the second pixel locations may be identified and filled.

  • Patent number: 8279353
Abstract: An image processing device is provided with a picture quality mode which is used to collectively set a plurality of the picture qualities by one operation, a user can select the picture quality mode depending on his preference or content of programs to be viewed. A recording portion stores an association table. The association table is a table in which the picture quality mode and sound quality setting values to direct sound quality setting for a sound quality setting portion, are correlated with each other and stored. When a control portion receives a picture quality setting command by a designation of the picture quality mode, the picture quality setting portion performs setting of the respective picture qualities depending on the picture quality mode. Further, the setting direction portion reads out the association table and obtains the sound quality setting values which are correlated with the designated picture quality mode.

  • Patent number: 8280192
Abstract: Systems and methods are provided that facilitate grey level magnification to improve details and contrast for a dark scene of video on a digital display system. Preferably implemented over a limited pixel level range, the video enhancement process counts the number of pixels corresponding to each level within the range in a frame and then, based on the percent level distribution of the pixels, calculates the stack of percentage distribution. From the stack of percentage distribution, a transformation process is performed to reassign the pixel values over a dark level range and to expand the distribution of the pixels. The result of transformation enhances the details and contrast of the dark area significantly without affecting the bright scene. By only applying the algorithm to dark scenes, computation loads are reduced compared with some of the full picture processing methods. Lower computational loads are important to reduce motion artifacts in high speed video applications.

Abstract: An interface is realized that can prevent video signals from being copied easily and which uses a luminance/color difference signal transmission scheme with an excellent harmony with a television circuit. In a video transmission using a digital interface, colorimetry information for defining the conversion from the luminance/color difference signal into a primary color signal and video aspect ratio information are transmitted along with the luminance/color difference type video signal. This allows reproduction of video with high quality and high resolution and also realizes a copyright protection which allows only the users authorized by key information to use the content of the video. With this transmission scheme, it is possible to provide a transmitting apparatus, a receiving apparatus and an interface which highly harmonize with a rationalized television-based circuit.
