Abstract: A method of fabricating a voltage-tunable liquid crystal-based notch filter requires filling at least two LC cells with cholesteric LC material to create LH and RH LC cells while applying heat to the cell substrates such that their temperatures are raised to near, but below, the clearing point, such that the LC material remains in the cholesteric state. An AC voltage is applied and turned off repeatedly while the LC cells cool down to room temperature, to cause the LC molecules to temporarily deviate from their intrinsic helical alignment. The cells are passed under a UV light sufficient to create cross-linked polymer networks, and self-compensation is used to compensate for in-band retardation. The resulting LH and RH LC cells are stacked such that the electrodes on adjacent substrates are connected to form a common electrode.

  • Patent number: 9664962
Abstract: A pixel electrode formed into a slit structure with striped electrodes opposed to each other for a zero rubbing angle can provide fast response since rotational directions of the liquid crystals become opposite at both sides of the slit in the striped electrodes. The electrode structure, however, poses a problem of low transmittance. Provided is a liquid crystal display device of IPS-Pro scheme including a pixel electrode with one pair of striped electrodes. The first striped electrode includes a short electrode section and long electrode sections, and the second striped electrode also includes a short electrode section and long electrode sections. The long electrode sections of the first striped electrode are disposed adjacently to those of the second striped electrode. Liquid crystals are aligned in a lengthwise direction of the striped electrodes.

Abstract: Provided is a geometric transformation lens which can transform a target image geometrically as desired, achieving downsizing and reducing energy consumption. Even if another target to be observed more in detail is inside the field of view, the geometric transformation lenses (20a, 20b, 20c and 20d) can magnify optically the desired region within the target projection image by supplying the magnification instruction voltage (V2,mn) to the corresponding magnifying/demagnifying electrodes (EL2,mn) simply without moving the lens itself using heavy mechanical parts motorized. This can achieve downsizing because a space for setting the existing mechanical part to control the direction of the lens and its motion can be disregarded. This also can achieve reducing energy consumption because no space is needed to move the lenses with the heavy mechanical parts.
