Picture Size Conversion Patents (Class 358/451)
  • Patent number: 7391526
Abstract: In transmitting/receiving an E-mail with a file attached to it, the contents of the attached file is to be displayed in a reception terminal irrespective of the file format of a file attached to the E-mail, the image size or the maximum number of colors in displaying the file contents. To this end, the accommodating capability in a reception terminal is verified based on a mail address in sending an E-mail with an attached file to a reception terminal. If the accommodating capability in the reception terminal is not matched to the attached file, the file is converted in keeping with the accommodating capability of the reception terminal, and the E-mail is sent with the so-converted file attached to it.

Abstract: Using a picture image printing system, both types of pictures recorded by a camera using a film and a digital camera are effectively printed. The printing system comprises a film scanner for inputting a picture recorded on a film, and a card reader for inputting a picture recorded by a digital camera. By switching between the scanner and card reader upon necessity, digital image data is obtained. An image processing apparatus performs pixel number conversion on the digital image data by keeping an aspect ratio of the image constant, so that the picture image data is printed in a width almost the same as a width of rolled paper. The digital image data whose pixel number has been converted are subsequently printed on the rolled paper by a printer.

Abstract: The amount of moiré in halftone printed images is reduced using unique moiré intensity functions and moiré vectors in a halftoner. In various embodiments, moiré phase angle zones are determined over the full field of an image and high addressability units in the full-field moiré phase angle zones of the image are adjusted, including in an iterative manner, until they significantly reduce the moiré. A useful relationship between halftoner memory locations and moiré phase angle zones in a full field image is determined. The moiré that occurs in a halftone image is quantified and moiré compensation values obtained are then used to generate an inverse moire amount which is used to compensate for the moiré.

Abstract: An object of the invention is to enable appropriate interpolation even in a halftone image binarized by error diffusion or the like. While image reading signals from a hand scanner are inputted to an A/D conversion section and converted to multivalued digital signals, the presence or absence of a skip is detected by a skip acknowledgement section, and when a skip is detected, a selector is switched toward a multivalued image line buffer. Multivalued image data of one line is stored in the multivalued image line buffer, and interpolation processing is carried out in a binarization processing section by the use of the stored multivalued image data of one line. When a skip is not detected, the multivalued image data from the A/D conversion section is passed by the selector to the binarization processing section and binarized.

The method includes moving an image sensor by driving a motor; calculating a first number of pixels; calculating a difference between the first number of pixels and a second number of pixels; and correcting the length of the image scanned in the flatten scanner by using the calculated difference. Therefore, the method makes it possible that a scanned image can have the same length as that of an original image by using the difference between the first and second numbers of pixels. In addition, when a flatten scanner is developed, necessity for fine adjustment to correct the length of a scanned image is eliminated, and, therefore, time required to develop a scanner is shortened.

If the custom print size is in the calculated range of sizes, the image may printed in the custom size. Alternatively, the image is printed in a size in the range.

Abstract: A method for image scaling. Specifically, one embodiment of the present invention discloses a method for image scaling that begins by selecting an input pixel from a first image. An input edge characteristic is determined from an input window associated with the input pixel. The input edge characteristic is determined from a plurality of predetermined edge characteristics that are associated with sets of filter coefficient vectors. An output window is generated by filtering the input window with a corresponding set of filter coefficients associated with the input edge characteristic. An output image is generated by repeating the above for a plurality of input pixels associated with the first image.

Abstract: An average filter or filters is used in line with the output of an interpolation filter to downscale an image. The interpolation filter upscales a source image or bitmap of pixels into an intermediate form and the average filter or filters downscales the intermediate form to a destination image or bitmap of pixels. This configuration incorporates a small amount of logic with a relatively low incremental cost, enabling high quality downscaling of text and computer graphics content. The invention achieves quality comparable to a filter/scalar combination with more taps or a separate decimation pass.

  • Patent number: 7110620
Abstract: An apparatus which processes a digital image and a method therefor which can reduce an error when calculating an output value obtained by interpolating pixel values of the input digital image. The apparatus includes an interpolation processing unit which interpolates an input digital image, and a controller which measures an interpolation interval of pixel values of the digital image, calculates a coefficient by substituting the interpolation interval for a coefficient equation stored in a register, and calculates an interpolation node for the digital image by substituting the coefficient and an output pixel position value of the digital image for an interpolation node calculation equation. The controller controls the interpolation processing unit so as to interpolate the digital image to the interpolation node. As a result, it is possible to reduce an error between an interpolated output pixel position value and an output pixel position value for the pixel values of the input digital image.

An energy function of a picture varied in dependence upon the input picture is defined in advance and stored. An input picture is enlarged, that is the number of pixels is increased, and a value which decreases the energy in a pixel of the enlarged picture is calculated. This energy decreasing value is added to the pixel and the pixel value is updated to adjust the picture quality to raise the resolution.
