Hence, even when identical types of information are provided because they have the same attribute, it is hard to say that satisfactory information provision can be made. Also, different kinds of information are required depending on output methods. To solve these problems, output information to be output for each region is determined based on information of an output destination of a document image and attributes of respective regions in the document image, and pieces of output information to be output are combined to be output to the output destination. The output information to be output for each region may be determined based on the information of the output destination of the document image, the attributes of the respective regions in the document image, and user's authority information.

All combinations of items of the control information capable of being set by the user and values of items incapable of being set by the user, these having been selected so as to be the optimum values for the combinations, are stored as preset values in a combined information storage unit. An information storage unit compares a value in the user information storage unit with a value in the combined information storage unit. If a combination for which agreement is achieved is found in the combined information storage unit, this value is stored in a printing information storage unit and transmitted to the printing device. Thus, an optimum value can be selected and sent to the printing device even with regard to an item incapable of being selected by the user.

The smoothing unit smoothes a facial region. The region division unit divides the smoothed facial region into a first region and a second region. The first region detection unit generates a first region detection result by detecting whether the first region is an occluded region. The second region detection unit generates a second region detection result by detecting whether the first region is an occluded region. The decision unit decides whether the facial region is an occluded face based on the first region detection result and the second region detection result.

Abstract: Embodiments of the present invention disclose a method to process an input image into a final image which is enhanced or improved. In accordance with the method, the input image is split into a plurality of layers. Each layer comprises objects of a single type. Each layer is for objects of a different type. Each layer is then processed separately to improve or enhance the quality of the objects therein. The final image is produced by integrating or synthesizing the plurality of layers. Apparatus to implement the method is also disclosed.

Abstract: In a digital camera that can perform print designation, a print designation file for writing jobs for printing is prepared in a memory card in which image data is recorded, and information for specifying a file to be printed (FILE_ID), file identifying information for identifying whether the file to be printed is a moving image file or a still image file (FILE_TYPE), and information for specifying a scene to be printed in the moving image if the file to be printed is the moving image file (FRAME_NUM) are stored in the print designation file. A printing device reads the print designation file from the memory card, then takes out the image data to be printed from the memory card in accordance with the read information and executes printing. Thus, it is possible to perform the print designation of the specified image in the moving image without wasting the memory capacity in the recording medium.

Abstract: First, an image ordering rule is selected from among multiple image ordering rules that use mutually different types of image characteristic values to determine the order of arrangement of images. The image characteristic value used by the selected image ordering rule is then obtained for each of a plurality of images. The order of arrangement of a plurality of images is determined based on the selected image ordering rule and the image characteristic values for a plurality of images. Furthermore, the number of images to be placed on each page is determined based on the maximum number of images that can be included in each page of the electronic album. Finally, an electronic album in which a plurality of images are laid out on multiple pages in sequential order is created in accordance with the order of arrangement of a plurality of images and the number of images to be placed on each page.
