Abstract: An image processing apparatus includes an image forming instructing section that notifies an image forming section, whether to perform a first printing processing with a plurality of colors including at least one chromatic color or a second printing processing with only black. A data obtaining section obtains pixel data from a plurality of pixels constituting an image; and an operating section inputs designated color data. A pixel data extracting section extracts pixel data of colors, except for a designated color indicated by the designated color data inputted through the operating section, from pixel data obtained by the data obtaining section. A printing type selecting section selects the first or second printing processing based on each pixel data extracted by the pixel data extracting section. The image forming instructing section notifies the printing type selected by the printing type selecting section as the type of printing processing to be performed.

Abstract: Stereoscopic images may be represented in four coordinates where a first image is represented in three coordinates and a second image is represented of one coordinate. The brightness contrast is the property largely used in stereoscopic perception. The brightness and color of the first image is represented in three coordinates while the brightness of the second image is represented in the one coordinate. Color perception is dominated by the first image. A universal file format with four channels allows the stereoscopic images to be displayed as anaglyphs or as two full color images or as non-stereoscopic images. The anaglyphs may be rendered in three primary colors or four primary colors providing wide compatibility with traditional and specialized display apparatus. The universal file format facilitates methods to capture, display, convert, and communicate stereoscopic images.

Abstract: Determination of a grid structure for a set of values in a device color space, in which heuristics are applied to a collection of color sample data in order to determine the structure of a look-up table that best fits the samples. Sampling data is sorted for each channel thereof, and the number of steps in each channel is counted. The data is checked for completeness. Steps are removed if they do not correspond to steps on the axes of a three-dimensional cube. If, as a result of step removal, a full LUT has been obtained, then the structure of the LUT has been determined and the process ends. On the other hand, if a full LUT has not been obtained, then steps are removed if they are under-correlated with other steps.

Abstract: To provide an image data processing circuit with high productivity and a color image forming apparatus using the same by enabling sharing of the image data processing circuit between a four-rotation machine and a quadruple tandem machine, and reduction of registers for four colors arranged for the four-rotation machine to a single register for one color. There is provided an image forming apparatus in which a first image processing unit out of first and second image processing units provided in an image data processing circuit executes a first image processing for an image read by a scanner unit, stores an image signal in a page memory, the second image processing unit reads the image signal from the page memory according to a synchronous signal generated in an engine unit to execute a second image processing, and the engine unit forms the image on the basis of the results therefrom.
Abstract: An image processing apparatus is provided which can execute a rotation process of an image when there is insufficient storage capacity. When the rotation process can not be performed, a process to reduce a set value of the condition is executed. When the set value of the condition is reduced, an attempt can be made to execute the process under the reduced set value.

Abstract: An electronic portable document format (PDF) file contains different combinations of gradient blends between spot color and process color. Each gradient blend is represented as both rasterized bitmap and vector images. The rasterized bitmap and vector images can be used to quickly assess the capability of any digital front end (DFE) to process the color gradient blends. The PDF file contains two sets of spot color and process color blended combinations. The first set contains four types of color gradient blends: spot-to-spot, process-to-spot, spot-to-process, and process-to-process, each of which represent the intended design. The second set contains the same four types of color gradient blends, except here the CMYK colors associated with the spot colors are intentionally manipulated. By printing the PDF file using different DFEs, one may compare the output from the two sets and immediately identify any color gradient handling problem, providing a quick benchmarking tool.

Abstract: A method for forming a color image that allows a color image forming device to detect print chromaticity by an actually used print medium and automatically perform an optimal color balance adjustment in consideration of the chromaticity of the print medium. At a first step of the method, it is determined whether a feeder is selected for a subsequent printing operation. If selected, the process proceeds to a second step. If not selected, it is determined that the printing operation is not performed for some time and the process is completed without color balance adjustment. At the second step, a print medium for printing a test pattern is fed from the feeder selected for a subsequent printing operation, which is determined at the first step. A color sensor detects the chromaticity of the test pattern transferred and fused on the print medium, and the color balance is then adjusted.

Abstract: A dimensionality reduction method and system for efficient color transform compression is disclosed. A multi-dimensional color transform with an n-dimensional input color space can be received. A projection operator can be derived and applied to the n-dimensional input color space to form a k-dimensional input color space. A functional approximation can be designed to the n-dimensional input color space and can be evaluated on the k-dimensional input color space to form an m-dimensional output color space. The projection operator and the approximation function can be combined to form a compressed transform by mapping the n-dimensional input color space to m-dimensional output color space. Such an approach provides a significant reduction in size of the color profile with respect to storage and speeds-up real-time computation.
