  • Patent number: 8194992
Abstract: A content-based image processing system and method are disclosed. The method includes automatically identifying whether an original image is a seascape. For an image which is identified as being a seascape, the method includes automatically assigning an enhancement class for the image, selected from a plurality of enhancement classes, the classes comprising a first enhancement class for sea landscape images and a second enhancement class for portrait images. The image is processed to generate an enhanced image. Where the image is assigned to the first enhancement class, this includes applying a first enhancement chain, which may include applying a polarizing filter. Where the image is assigned to the second enhancement class, the processing includes applying a second enhancement chain, which may include detecting regions corresponding to skin in the image and selectively applying local contrast enhancement to those regions corresponding to skin.

Abstract: In printing an electronic document on a paper, an MFP prints a code image created by encoding a paper ID including a local ID issued to the paper and stores paper information with the paper ID. The MFP determines a type of data format, creates a paper ID in the data format, and prints a code image created by encoding the paper ID. In copying a printed paper, the MFP decodes the code image printed on the paper to acquire the paper ID and retrieves paper information associated with the paper ID according to the data format. The MFP specifies the electronic document as a print source from retrieved paper information and performs printing using the electronic document.

  • Patent number: 8054316
Abstract: A system and method for adjusting pictures minimizes the impact on graphics processing performance of a discrete processor. A hybrid system configuration includes the discrete processor and an integrated processor, where the discrete processor typically consumes more power and provides greater processing performance compared with the integrated processor. A picture is produced by a video or graphics engine of a discrete processor within a hybrid system. Each picture is then transferred to a back buffer in the host processing memory. The picture is analyzed to produce picture analysis results that are used to generate adjustment settings. The back buffer is swapped to become the front buffer and the adjustment settings are applied to the picture by an integrated processor to display an adjusted picture. The adjustment may be used in conjunction with power saving techniques to maintain the image quality when display backlighting is reduced.

Abstract: In a print control apparatus of the invention, it is assumed that preprocessing with regard to a print object image specified as an object of image processing is currently being performed by an advanced processing execution module, at an input timing of an image processing instruction in response to a print instruction. On condition that a processing amount of the preprocessing currently performed by the advanced processing execution module has reached a predetermined level, an image processor waits for completion of the preprocessing performed by the advanced processing execution module and implements a correction process by utilizing a result of the preprocessing performed by the advanced processing execution module.

Abstract: An image processing method and image processing apparatus which can execute vector conversion processing by appropriately dividing a clipart image including gradation into regions are provided. To this end, a color document image including a clipart image having an area of gradation is input, the clipart image is selected, and outline information of the clipart image is extracted. The color document image is separated into an achromatic color area and a chromatic color area, which are respectively divided into a plurality of regions. Of the plurality of regions of each of the achromatic color area and the chromatic color area divided in the dividing of region step, regions which meet a set condition are integrated. After that, the clipart image is converted into vector data using a region group after integrating of region and the outline information.

Abstract: A multifunction device having a user interface that enables the selection of a particular region of a document image after an initial scan of a document that creates a preview (thumbnail) image of the document. Using a display on the multifunction device, a desired region of the image may be selected for to manipulating and final scanning. A selection box is displayed over the preview image to show the user the region that will be scanned. The user can then select an area of the image for further manipulation through the user interface by moving and/or resizing the selection box, zooming in/out, or erasing a region within the selection box.

Abstract: Conventionally, a user interface used to change the color of a digital image has a configuration in which three elements, i.e., hue, chroma, and brightness are independent from each other, and the relationship among the three elements are difficult to be recognized, resulting in poor usability. This invention provides a user interface which movably displays a color object that represents an original color on a chromaticity diagram that expresses an arbitrary color system. The user can designate a destination color by moving the color object on the chromaticity diagram. For this reason, the user can easily select and designate a practical color.
