With Common Capstan Drive Patents (Class 360/96.4)
  • Patent number: 10783931
Abstract: An archival data storage service dispatches a first robotic device of a data storage library to perform a first task that involves moving a first data storage tape from a tape drive to a slot of the data storage library. The service select a second task to be performed by a second robotic device, which can be performed without the first robotic device causing delay of the second task. While the first robotic device is performing the first task, the archival data storage service dispatches the second robotic device to perform the second task.

  • Patent number: 7440271
Abstract: A mounting apparatus is provided for securing a data storage device. The data storage device has two opposite side walls. Each side wall forms a pair of posts. The mounting apparatus includes a chassis, a bracket mounted in the chassis for accommodating the data storage device, and a latch member pivotally mounted to the bracket. A plurality of slots is defined in one side wall of the bracket for receiving the posts of the data storage device. The latch member includes a base. An elastic arm and a hook extend from the base. The elastic arm resists against the chassis to urge the hook partially covering one of the mounting slots for preventing a corresponding post received in the mounting slot disengaging therefrom. The latch member is being pressable to depress the elastic arm and remove the hook away from the mounting slot thereby release the corresponding post.

  • Patent number: 6935545
Abstract: A pinch roller unit of a magnetic recording/reading apparatus disposed on a main deck on which a head drum and a capstan are disposed to move in association with a sub-deck which is disposed to slide on the main deck. The pinch roller unit operates to bring a tape into close contact with the capstan, and comprises a pivoting lever rotatably disposed on the main deck to pivot towards the capstan in relation to movement of the sub-deck being loaded, a pinch roller rotatably disposed at an end of the pivoting lever and brought into contact with the capstan at the time of loading process, and a torsion spring stressed by being pushed by the sliding member sliding along the left and right directions of the main deck for pushing the pivoting lever towards the capstan.

  • Patent number: 6742641
Abstract: A rotational driving apparatus of a magnetic device, a clutch mechanism or a speed change clutch mechanism is provided selectively in a path for transmitting a rotation from a capstan motor to a feed reel or a take-up reel. The clutch mechanism decelerates the rotation of the motor at a first reduction ratio, and transmits the resultant rotation to a change-over gear. The speed change clutch mechanism has a first transmission shaft, a pulley gear, a constant torque transmission member, a speed change output gear, speed change intermediate gear and a speed change movable gear. The speed change intermediate gear and speed change movable gear are mounted on a second transmission shaft provided close to a first transmission shaft, and transmit the rotation of the pulley gear to the speed change output gear via a constant torque transmission member, or directly with the speed of the rotation changed.

  • Patent number: 6550711
Abstract: A magnetic tape apparatus has an intermediate gear (19) meshed with an idler gear (22) which is releasably meshed with both a pay-off reel table (2) and a roll-up reel table (3), a drive gear (31) rotatably driven by a capstan motor (10), a driven gear (32) releasably meshed with the drive gear (31) by way of a friction plate, a clutch mechanism (20), and a speed increasing mechanism (27). The speed increasing mechanism (27) has a movable rotary body (37) rotatably mounted around a support shaft (36) and adapted to reciprocate along an axis of the support shaft (36) by means of the clutch mechanism (20). The movable rotary body (37) is provided with a small diametered gear (38) and a large diametered gear (39). In a fast feed mode and a rewind mode, the small diametered gear (38) is meshed with the drive gear (31) while the large diametered gear (39) is meshed with the intermediate gear (19).
