By implementing dedicated GPIO lines, grounded metal domes cover the signal pads in the target discharge area to protected the GPIO lines from ESD. Device components are protected from ESD without additional ports or insulation.

Depending on the configuration of such dielectric or electrically isolated conductive surfaces, these repelling electrostatic forces may dissuade ion migration or flow from sensitive but closely proximate components and/or may shape fields to enhance ion flows in a desired downstream direction.

A second ground conducting route has a ground portion formed at a position to which the media contacts after the media cassette is attached to the first position and after the media is conveyed by the media supply roller.
