Abstract: A method and apparatus include attaching a lighted cup holder to a seating arrangement. The lighted cup holder includes a cup holder body and a light-producing light source, with the cup holder body being attached to the seating arrangement and having a cup receptacle therein, the light-producing source being disposed within the cup receptacle for illuminating the receptacle. A light-sensitive element operatively connected to the light source selectively controls production of light by the light source in such a manner that illumination of the cup holder is provided only under conditions where visibility is reduced to the point that it becomes difficult to locate the cup holder. The light-sensitive element is mounted on a master lighted cup holder and controls illumination of the master lighted cup holder and one or more slave lighted cup holders operatively connected to the master lighted cup holder.

An energy-saving system having a switch that turns on a lamp when a front cover is at an angle to a rear cover of between 45 and 135 degrees. The lamp is turned off when the angle is less than 45 degrees or greater than 135 degrees to prevent battery drain when the holder is left open or cannot completely close. Optimized lamp positioning places a centerline of a cone of illumination at a maximum of thirty degrees from the front cover to enable use of a low wattage lamp. The resultant low battery drain enables the components to be permanently enclosed in a document holder cover that has the appearance, dimensions and thickness of standard document holders. Advantages of components enclosed within a cover are reliability, ease of cleaning, market entry and low cost manufacture.

Abstract: This invention describes a hinged dust pan comprising a light source that is designed to illuminate a floor or other flat work surface in front of the dustpan for the purpose of locating and collecting small hard to see objects. This can be for the purpose of cleaning or simply locating a small valuable object. The light source is fashioned such that it provides a very low grazing angle of illumination that it skims across a surface. Small objects or particles are visible as being brighter than the surroundings and set off by a long shadow on the side of the particle away from the light.

Abstract: The invention generally comprises a compact luminaire enclosure that preferably contains about 14 to 18 cubic inches of air volume and can be used safely with a 50 watt luminaire. The luminaire enclosure comprises a housing and a shroud that is removably attached to the housing. The shroud has a non-planar face that prevents the shroud from laying flat and trapping heat if the enclosure is placed on or falls on a flat surface. The housing can comprise polyetherimide, which has very good heat dissipation properties. The shroud may also comprise polyetherimide. The compact luminaire enclosure of the invention further comprises an internal thermal lamp shield recessed within the housing. The internal thermal lamp shield comprises highly specular material so that it is able to reflect much of the heat coming from an enclosed luminaire. In one embodiment of the invention, the luminaire comprises anodized aluminum.

Abstract: A lamp assembly for a controlled environment chamber comprises a frame, a plurality of fluorescent lamps supported on the frame and spaced apart from one another and a plurality of sleeves. Each sleeve is disposed about a respective fluorescent lamp at a distance therefrom to form a space between said sleeve and said respective fluorescent lamp, said sleeve being sealed about said respective fluorescent lamp to prevent air from outside said sleeve from reaching said respective fluorescent lamp. The sleeves are spaced apart to allow airflow therebetween. With the space between each sleeve and the respective lamp being fluidly isolated from air surrounding the sleeve, the light intensity output of the lamp is not as susceptible to reduction under temperature fluctuation in the chamber interior outside the sleeves, while said air remains free to flow between the lamps from one side of the lamp assembly to the other.

Abstract: A light head is mounted on a common base, and includes a light source in a mounting base. The base is mounted on a collapsible elongated pole, and the pole is for mounting on an outside wall of a carrying case. There is a carrying handle for the case, an electrical power outlet mounted on a wall, base or lid of the case and for plugging in an electrical wire to power the light head. The interior of the case is for locating a rechargeable battery, and the battery when charged, supplies power to the power outlet such that the light head can be powered. Recharging can be via either a 12V DC automobile or a 110 AC power supply. The carrying handle is extendible; and retractable, and in the retraction mode is essentially within the general perimeter space of the case. The case includes a pair of pulley wheels, the wheels being for facilitating the moving of the case.

Abstract: A control system for a liquid motion lamp maintains the proper temperature of liquids within the lamp to provide desired motion within the lamp, and reduces sensitivity to ambient temperature. The lamp preferably includes two heating elements, a first element for initial heating, such as a heat blanket, resistive glass coating, or a submerged ring, and a second heating element generally providing both heat and lighting. A sensor measures the temperature of the liquid inside the lamp and the control system controls the heat sources to maintain the temperature within operating limits.
