Candle Type Patents (Class 362/161)
  • Patent number: 7086752
Abstract: A self-extinguishing and relightable candle and a device for incorporation into a candle to make it self-extinguishing and relightable, are disclosed. The candle comprises a consumable candle body having a wick, and at least one of the extinguishing devices mounted upon the wick. The extinguishing device comprises a body having a vertical bore through which the wick extends, the diameter of the bore chosen to closely embrace the wick to deprive the wick of oxygen, and a non-flammable upper surface having a receptacle in connection with an upper end of the bore. After the candle has burned down and is extinguished, the extinguishing device may be removed to expose a new wick portion to allow the candle to be lit. The extinguishing devices may be stacked upon the wick to provide for multiple successive extinguishments and relightings.

  • Patent number: 7055984
Abstract: Candleholders suitable for outdoor use include a base unit for holding a candle, this unit having a candle supporting surface and an upstanding wall portion, and a separate cover member for placement over the candle or candles and the base unit. The cover member forms a top and a peripheral wall section. The candleholder has a plurality of openings located between the supporting surface and the top. The preferred openings are formed by partially cutting out and bending small sections of one of the upstanding wall portion and the wall section inward so as to permit entry of combustion air while also normally changing the direction of airflow of the incoming air. In one version, there is also a main housing adapted for mounting below ground level, this housing having an open top and a peripheral side wall portion that extends upwardly from a concrete bottom.

  • Patent number: 7011425
Abstract: A decorated luminary product includes a candle holder containing a candle, wherein at least one of the inner surface and the outer surface of the candle holder has a hammered texture such that light passing through the candle holder varies substantially as a result of variation of refraction of the light. A decorative web of a heat-shrinkable polymer may be heat shrunk to conform to the outer surface of the candle holder. The web is decorated with an ink or pigmentation to cooperate with light and/or heat emitted by burning the candle, so as to provide a pleasing visual effect when the candle is burned, while the hammered texture of the candle holder causes variations in the refraction of light emitted from the candle, causing further visual effects.

  • Patent number: 6869200
Abstract: The present invention provides for a jack-o-lantern lid mounted candle holder in the form of a shaped rod. The shaped portions of the rod are formed in integrally connecting segments. A candle mount portion, a candle base support portion, a vertical hanging portion, and a lid attachment portion form the candle holder. The rod material forming the candle mount portion is shaped to be substantially circular having one end of the rod overlapping and completing the circle where the candle base support portion begins. The overlapping end of the circular portion allows the user to adjust the compressible, extendable rod firmly to hold candles of different diameters. A candle may be placed within the candle mount portion by extending the candle mount portion outwards to enlarge the diameter of the candle mount portion's circular segment. The candle base support portion has a vertical leg segment that begins at the candle mount portion and extends vertically to a straight edge segment.

The venting plate includes a flat disc shaped top and a channeled annular baffle. The venting plate sits atop the mouth of the containerized candle and is supported above the rim of the vessel mouth by a number of mounting bosses or feet. The mounting feet space the top above the candle brim to permit the flow of inlet air underneath the venting plate between the plate top and the brim of the candle vessel. The baffle extends downward into the mouth of the vessel around the exhaust vent and has six recessed longitudinal furrows, which allow inlet air into the vessel interior. The baffle redirects the inlet air flow, which enters the candle horizontally from underneath the venting plate, downward along the vessel sidewall. The inlet air flow passes through the six inlet channels, which columnate the inlet air flow into distinct columns of air.

Abstract: An illumination system includes a plurality of candles having a plurality of different illumination durations. The illumination durations of each candle are designed to correspond to the timing of an event such as a dinner party or a cocktail party. As the evening progresses the candles bum out in succession, progressively dimming the lighting. By packaging the candles together, a candle illumination system is provided with pre-determined dimming times.

  • Patent number: 6511313
Abstract: The present invention discloses a class of candles comprised of attached sections that fall away as the candle is burned. In a basic embodiment a novelty candle has a wick embedded in a wax core. Several attachments are connected to the core. The attachments are shaped, weighted, and placed such that they would tend to fall down and outward if not for their connection to the core. The falling process is initiated by lighting the wick. Heat from the flame causes the attachments to disconnect from the core and subsequently fall and rest on a table or other surface. Once the attachments have fallen, portions of the core previously hidden are revealed.

Abstract: A combination flashlight/candle lantern with a modified lower base designed to be used with the standard, metallic cover on a candle lantern. The modified lower base has an upper neck designed to selectively attach to the metallic cover. The modified lower base also includes an upward extending cavity and a transversely aligned candle platform designed to receive a tube candle. Formed on the opposite side of the candle platform is a downward extending lower cavity designed to receive a low profile flashlight assembly. The flashlight assembly includes a cylindrical-shaped housing designed to partially extend into the lower base. Located centrally on the housing is a longitudinally extending LED electrically connected to two side-by-side watch batteries. Attached over the lower opening on the housing is a combination lens/switch which, when rotated, controls operation of the LED. The flashlight assembly may also include a bail located on the base member opposite the combination lens/switch.

  • Patent number: 6491517
Abstract: A decorative candle display including a transparent container with an interior wall surface having flat interior side wall surfaces. There is at least one shaped generally opaque structure fabricated of an opaque combustible wax material and a transparent combustible gelatinous material which is pressed against the interior wall. The generally opaque structure has a tacky surface that self adheres to the interior wall surface. An opaque combustible filler material is disposed within the container and visible therethrough, and a wick extends exteriorly from the filler material. Pigment and/or fragrance can be incorporated within the gelatinous and/or filler materials. The candle display is formed by positioning the at least one opaque structure onto the interior wall, pouring a heat-melted opaque combustible filler material into the container and surrounding a previously placed wick, and finally cooling and solidifying the filler material to thereby complete the candle display.

  • Patent number: 6461014
Abstract: An ornamental device with thermal cycle of flame includes a heating section, and an exhibition section. The heating section has a base frame with an open top, the base frame providing a combustion room with an air aperture, the combustion room holding a combustible at a proper distance between the combustible and the open top. The exhibition section is an enclosed exhibiting container astride the base frame, containing a fluid medium of proper level to form an air chamber, and one or more exhibits being provided in the fluid medium. Once the combustible is lit, the flame heats up the fluid medium in the exhibiting container to a temperature of circulation. The fluid medium may generate a thermal cycle and circulate in the exhibiting container such that the exhibits may move with the circulating fluid medium and generate an effect of dynamic exhibition of tumbling upward and downward or floating and submerging alternately.
