  • Patent number: 8764226
Abstract: An illumination module includes a longitudinal support member including a base portion and a pair of sidewalls extending from the base portion that together define a channel that extends in a longitudinal direction. A printed circuit board (PCB) on the base portion extends in the longitudinal direction within the channel. A plurality of light emitting diodes (LEDs) are on the PCB in a linear array. A reflective sheet is within and extends across the channel, and includes a plurality of holes that correspond with locations of the LEDs on the PCB, and the LEDs are positioned in the holes. An optical film extends across the channel above the reflective sheet and defines an optical cavity between the reflective sheet and the optical film. The optical film, the reflective sheet and the sidewalls of the support member recycle light in the optical cavity.

Abstract: An LED lamp specially adapted for use in combination with a concave reflector and to replace the incandescent light sources normally used. The lamp includes two or more light emitting diodes or light emitting diode arrays, each with a specified angle of light radiation, mounted substantially perpendicular to the lamp support and spaced symmetrically around the longitudinal axis of the said lamp support to form a compact consolidated light radiation area with a specified length, width, and height. All of the light radiates outward in a 360 degree radial pattern around and horizontal to the longitudinal axis of the said lamp support and at a specified angle of radiation vertical to the longitudinal axis of the said lamp support. Substantially all of the light emitted impinges on, and is redirected by, the reflector to project a high intensity beam of light with all light rays radiating at the same angle.

Abstract: A design of lighting fixture is presented whereby the outer glass lens—flat in prior art lighting fixtures—is bowed outward. The design of lighting fixture permits a plurality of LED modules to be contained therein, each with their own visor, without constraining the aiming angle of each due to interference between the outer lens and each individual visor. In this manner, an external visor may be omitted thereby obviating undesirable lighting effects such as uneven lighting while still maintaining a reduced effective projected area (EPA) as compared to prior art lighting fixtures with no external visor and a flat outer glass lens.

  • Patent number: 8622569
Abstract: An apparatus, method, or system of lighting units comprising a plurality of individually positionable lighting elements, such as one or more LEDs, each element optionally having an associated optic. In embodiments of the present invention, one or more optics are developed using optimization techniques that allow for lighting different target areas in an effective manner by rotating or otherwise positioning the reflectors, refractive lenses, TIR lenses, or other lens types to create a composite beam. The apparatus, method, or system of lighting herein makes it possible to widely vary the types of beams from an available fixture using a small number of inventoried optics and fixtures. In some cases, by using a combination of individual beam patterns, a small set of individual optics would be sufficient to create a majority of the typical and specialized composite beams needed to meet the needs of most lighting projects and target areas.
