Including Cooling Means Patents (Class 362/264)
  • Patent number: 7806574
Abstract: An LED-based lighting system includes a printed circuit board (“PCB”) having conductors on a front-side thereof, one or more LEDs mounted with the conductors, and a structural element. The PCB is mounted with the conductors near to the structural element so that heat dissipation from the LEDs is primarily through the conductors and the structural element. A method of dissipating heat generated by an LED-based lighting system includes configuring a PCB with conductors on a front-side of the PCB, such that when one or more LEDs mounted to the conductors generates heat, the heat dissipates from the one or more LEDs to the conductors. The method also includes integrating a structural element such that at least portions of the conductors face the structural element, and the heat dissipates from the conductors to the structural element.

  • Patent number: 7682048
Abstract: A lighting emitting diode (LED) lamp (100) includes a first LED array (60) and a second LED array (50). A rate of change of a relatively luminous intensity relative to the temperature of the first LED array is lower than that of the second LED array. A first heat sink (10) thermally attaches to the first LED array. A second heat sink (20) thermally attaches to the second LED array. A heat dissipation efficiency of the second heat sink is higher than that of the first heat sink. The heat dissipation of the second LED array is much quicker than that of the first LED array. The second LED array thus can be kept working at a much lower temperature.

  • Patent number: 7637629
Abstract: A xenon short-arc lamp system includes a choice of two anode heatsinks with different mechanisms for thermally interfacing to, and supporting, e.g., a 300W-400W xenon short-arc lamp. One heatsink, allows a conventional mounting in which a split ring and clamp combination accommodate and clamp to a screw-on base adapter fitted to the 300W-400W xenon short-arc lamp. The lamp can then be operated at 300W. The second heatsink accommodates the 300W-400W xenon short-arc lamp directly without the adapter. A large threaded stud on the lamp is screwed directly into the heatsink and is seated such that a large orthogonal flat planar annular ring area also makes a tight thermal connection. The lamp can then be operated at its higher limit because of the much improved thermal resistance.
