  • Patent number: 9835457
Abstract: Embodiments are disclosed to calculate and store rock climbing navigational data using a rock climbing watch including a sensor array configured to measure an orientation of the rock climbing watch and a processor configured to calculate an angle between two rock face locations along a rock climbing route based upon an orientation of the rock climbing watch when it is pointed from a current rock face location towards another rock face location. A processor may determine route segments for traversing the rock climbing route. A processor may convert route climbing navigational data into a three-dimensional wireframe rock climbing navigational map including rock face locations, calculated distances and angles between rock face locations, and a rock climbing route. The rock climbing watch may present information to guide the user along a rock climbing route by displaying a graphical directional indicator and a distance to the next rock face location.

Abstract: Time-related properties may be modeled independent of a base object. Rather than storing time properties with the object, they may be stored independently. A given object may be stored once, even if it has a recurrent time property. The description of a “meeting,” for example, may be stored once. Each occurrence of that object over time may be stored in a “timeslot” (object <foo> occurs at time ‘t’ on day ‘d’). If it is a recurring property, recurrence information may be stored independently. “Exception” information may be stored independently as well.

  • Patent number: 9830588
Abstract: To make a payment, a smartphone presents artwork for a payment card (e.g., a Visa card) that has been selected by a user from a virtual wallet of such cards. Encoded in the displayed artwork is payment information that has been encrypted with a context-dependent session key. A cooperating system (e.g., a retailer's point of sale system) uses a camera to capture an image of the artwork, and independently creates the session key from its own context sensor(s), enabling decryption of the payment information. Such technology provides a superior transaction security model at a fraction of the cost of competing chip card payment systems (which require, e.g., expensive physical cards, and single-purpose reader hardware). A great variety of other features and arrangements are also detailed.

  • Patent number: 9477293
Abstract: An embedded controller for power-saving and a method thereof are provided. The embedded controller is used for executing a plurality of tasks and includes a timer module and a control unit. The timer module includes a plurality of timers, and each of timers is corresponding to one of the tasks respectively. The control unit is coupled to the timer module and respectively sets a wake-up period according to each task. When the wake-up period of each timer is expired, each timer respectively generates a wake-up signal to the control unit. The control unit controls the embedded controller to transfer to an active model from an idle model according to the wake-up signals respectively. After executing the tasks corresponding to the wake-up signals respectively, the control unit controls the embedded controller to transfer to the idle model from the active model.

  • Patent number: 9479633
Abstract: Embodiments of the invention generally include an alarm system and method of using an alarm system to reliably provide an alarm to a user at a desired time or at the occurrence of some desired action. In some embodiments, the apparatus and methods include a media output device that can receive information about an alarm event and then automatically provide an alarm prompt at the time when the alarm event is to occur. In one configuration, a media output device is configured to communicate and synchronize with a portable electronic device, so that a reliable and coordinated delivery of an alarm prompt can be obtained by these devices. Some aspects of the invention may include an apparatus, method and/or computing device software application configured to more easily setup and reliably deliver the alarm signal information to the user using one or more media output devices that are used in combination with an input device.

Abstract: A wake-up device (1) comprises clock means (2), wake-up timer means (3), controllable wake-up stimulus means (4), and a control device (5) for controlling the wake-up stimulus means (4). The wake-up stimulus means is capable of varying an intensity of the wake-up stimulus. The wake-up stimulus is started at a relatively low intensity at a predetermined advance time (tA) before the intended time of waking up (tWU), in such a manner that the intensity of the wake-up stimulus is gradually increased in accordance with a predefined wake-up program. The wake-up device further comprises sleep quality monitor means (10) for monitoring the quality of the sleep of a user, and for generating a sleep quality monitor signal (S) indicative of the quality of the sleep of the user. The control device is responsive to the sleep quality monitor signal (S) received from the sleep quality monitor means to amend the wake-up program.

  • Patent number: 9460348
Abstract: Methods and apparatus are disclosed for identifying a photo that lacks location metadata indicating where the photo was captured and determining a photo location to associate with the photo. In some implementations, a photo associated with a user is identified that includes metadata indicating a date and/or time it was captured, but lacks location data indicating where the photo was captured. In some versions of those implementations, a relationship of the metadata of the photo to at least one of a location date and a location time associated with a visit location of the user is determined. A photo location may be determined based on the visit location and associated with the photo. In some implementations, the visit location of the user may be determined independent of any location sensor.
