    Abstract: A system for signalling the termination of the lifetime of a battery for an electronic timepiece is disclosed. The system includes a hand display device, an electro-optical display device, a battery voltage detecting circuit adapted to produce a signal when voltage of the battery lowers below a predetermined value, and means for modulating the time display pulse to be applied to one of the display devices in response to the signal generated in the battery voltage detecting circuit, thereby to modifying the time display for informing the end of the battery lifetime.

    Abstract: A watch module construction including a digital display device composed of a liquid crystal display cell and an analog display device composed of time indicating hands. A cell support frame is disposed on one side of each of a base plate and a circuit board aligned substantially on the same plane as the base plate. The cell support frame has a first recess in which the liquid crystal display cell is disposed, and a second recess in which the time indicating hands are disposed. An IC chip is mounted on the other side of the circuit board in substantially axial alignment with the display cell, and a wheel train mechanism is disposed on the other side of the base plate in substantially axial alignment with the time indicating hands.

    Abstract: An electronic timepiece having liquid crystal or light-emitting diode display elements provides a logic network for flickering a part or all segments of the display element at a plurality of repetition rates and duty cycles, whereby additional intelligence associated with the repetition rate and duty cycle is conveyed by the display element. The logic network gives priority of display to any one preselected supplemental flickering intelligence function when there is a coincident demand for more than one supplemental function for display. Flickering draws attention to the supplemental intelligence contained in an otherwise continuous display.

    Abstract: A miniature electronic timepiece whose analog-display time-indicating hands are driven by the rotor of a stepping motor actuated by low-frequency periodic timing pulses derived by frequency division from a high-frequency crystal-controlled time base. The motor, in addition to a stator coil wound on a core, includes an auxiliary coil wound on the same core to define a transformer whose primary is the auxiliary coil and whose secondary is the stator coil. To power the electronic watch, a voltage at a predetermined level is required, this being supplied by a converter formed by an electronic chopper interposed between the primary of the transformer and a d-c source whose output is at a different voltage level. Thus the d-c voltage applied to the primary is periodically interrupted, the resultant a-c voltage yielded by the secondary being rectified to provide the desired power voltage.

    Abstract: In a timepiece having a case and having a minute hand and an hour hand for indicating time, an alarm signaling device generates an alarm by detecting the phase of two sets of gears. One set of gears comprises an hour hand gear and an hour detecting gear and the other set comprises a minute hand gear and a minute detecting gear. The two sets of gears are concentrically mounted for rotation and the minute detecting gear is positioned between the minute gear and the one set of gears. The minute detecting gear has a contacting sliding contact with the minute gear. The alarm signaling device further includes an alarm signaling time setting wheel having an axis of rotation parallel to that of the two sets of gears and a first gear and a second gear engaging the minute detecting gear and the hour detecting gear respectively.

    Abstract: A digital electronic timepiece having a multi-digit digital display for displaying the time count in a time counter which receives a divided down time signal from a time base signal generator. At least one settable time counter for storing a count corresponding to a desired time period is provided which is receptive of a time signal for decrementing the count thereof to zero. A plurality of display driving signals, each corresponding to one digit of display are generated wherein the display signals of successive digits are phase delayed with respect to each other and the frequency thereof is sufficiently low to produce visible flickering of display. Upon the sensing of the zero count in the timer counter, the display which is normally non-flickering, is driven with the display driving signals to produce a sequential flickering of the digits of the time display to provide a visual indication of the lapse of the desired time period.
