    Abstract: A circuit tester for testing operation of an electrical receptacle includes a speaker that generates an audible signal when a voltage is present at the electrical receptacle. A cap on the end of the circuit tester includes openings on the side through which the audible signal may pass. The cap may be rotated on/off the housing such that the openings on the side of the cap move along the side of the circuit tester and become partly or fully obstructed by the side of the circuit tester, thereby varying the volume of the audible signal.

The micro actuator for controlling a focal depth can be fabricated in a ultra-compact size, available for a mass production, and has a fast response speed.

The apparatus is ideal for moving an optic coaxial with a light beam. The present invention uses a voice coil motor with a cylindrical moving coil and a cylindrical permanent magnet assembly with a radial gap. The moving coil and magnet assemblies have clear apertures concentric with the apparatus and the axis of motion. A pair of planar flexures guides the moving coil. A position-sensing device is used to sense the position of the moving coil to enable fine position control.

A laser diode emits laser light on an optical disk according to a write signal to record data thereon. A write control signal generator calculates widths of a kick pulse and a brake pulse corresponding to the pulse width of the received NRZI signal, and generates write control signals in a predetermined order for controlling write power values corresponding to the calculated widths of the kick pulse and the brake pulse. A write signal generator supplies a write signal to the laser diode using a plurality of the write power values according to the write control signals generated by the write control signal generator. Accordingly, a write domain can be made to be close to a distinct oval.

The position of the slide is measured using a linear optical encoder and this information is used to place the data accurately on the tape. The slide is connected to a spring and driven electromagnetically at its resonant frequency.

    Abstract: A system for reading or recording indicia on a flexible disc. The disc is rotated between a pair of surfaces, one of which is flat and the other of which is elongated and curved. The opposed flat and curved elongated surfaces stabilize the disc at a precise point therebetween to enable recording or reading of the indicia thereon. The flexible disc may be to have indicia optically carried thereon. In such applications optical means is disposed in the surfaces defining means positioned on opposite sides of the disc to record or read the optical indicia. The optical means mounted in the curved surface is offset slightly in the direction of rotation of the disc. The means defining the flat and curved surfaces are radially translated with respect to the rotating disc within a radial slot provided in a base plate over which the disc rotates. Thus, by radially translating the surfaces containing the optical means with respect to the disc, the desired indicia can be recorded or detected.
