Patent number: 11443775Abstract: An issue facing shared read/write player hard disc drives (HDDs) is when a head-media contact event occurs, any resulting plume of debris caused by the contact event not only affects the magnetic disc currently being read or written, but other magnetic discs within the HDD enclosure. The presently disclosed technology is directed as mitigating the potential consequences of such a head-media contact event. By providing one or more internal access doors within the HDD, a magnetic disc currently being read from or written to may be physically isolated from other magnetic discs within the HDD. As a result, in the event of a head-media contact event, any resulting plume of debris caused by the contact event only affects the magnetic disc currently being read or written. The remaining magnetic discs within the HDD are isolated from the plume of debris.Type: GrantFiled: April 20, 2021Date of Patent: September 13, 2022Assignee: SEAGATE TECHNOLOGY LLCInventors: Brett R. Patent number: 10170149Abstract: An opening and closing device of rotating cage type jukebox disc tray including a first disc tray carrying discs and an opening and closing mechanism of disc tray including a first linkage mechanism and a first driving device is provided. The first linkage mechanism includes a first linkage bar, a first sliding member and a second linkage bar. The second linkage bar is slidingly disposed on the first sliding member which is slidingly disposed on the first linkage bar. When an end portion of the second linkage bar is connected to a first ear portion on a lateral side of the first disc tray, the first driving device drives the first sliding member to slide on the first linkage bar, leading the second linkage bar to slide on the first sliding member and thereby leading the first disc tray to rotate around a first fixing post.Type: GrantFiled: January 9, 2018Date of Patent: January 1, 2019Assignees: LITE-ON ELECTRONICS (GUANGZHOU) LIMITED, LITE-ON TECHNOLOGY CORPORATIONInventors: Shih-Ming Hsu, Jung-Fang Chang, Cheng-Wen Huang, Ming-Chun Tsao

Patent number: 8245247Abstract: A holding mechanism is operable to hold a top medium from a plurality of plate-shaped media accommodated in a stacker in a stacked manner. A transport arm supports the holding mechanism. When the lift mechanism lifts down the transport arm, one of a first elastic pressing force and a second elastic pressing force greater than the first elastic pressing force is selectively applied from the holding mechanism to an upper surface of the top medium.Type: GrantFiled: April 2, 2008Date of Patent: August 14, 2012Assignee: Seiko Epson CorporationInventor: Ryo Honma

Patent number: 7158326Abstract: A data storage library for storing a storage media, wherein a plurality of accessors accesses the data storage media stored in an array of storage cells includes a first accessor transporting the storage media, the first accessor including a first carriage storing or retrieving the storage media on to the storage cell and a first guide guiding the first carriage moving vertically; a second accessor transporting the storage media, the second accessor including a second carriage storing or retrieving the storage media on to the storage cell and a second guide guiding the second carriage moving vertically; and a third guide guiding the first accessor and the second accessor moving horizontally. The first carriage opposes the second carriage and the first and second carriages are in a staggered configuration, when the first guide exists between the array and the second guide.Type: GrantFiled: March 7, 2005Date of Patent: January 2, 2007Assignee: NEC CorporationInventor: Tadashi Hanagata

Publication number: 20030039177Abstract: A system and method for the storage and selective retrieval of discs is described. For selective retrieval of a disc, a feed unit is positioned such that a slot is located opposite a designated disc, a gate is opened and the designated disc rolls by the force of gravity into the slot and the rolling of remaining discs are stopped by a belt and, after the selected disc is retrieved, the gate closes, returning the remaining discs into the storage position.Type: ApplicationFiled: August 23, 2001Publication date: February 27, 2003Applicant: ERNST & YOUNG TRUST CORP (BVI) LTDInventors: Assaf Malul, Amit Dar
