Abstract: An information process device according to an embodiment includes a thermal head that prints on paper at positions along a width direction based on a reference position. The sensor is at a sensor position in the width direction and detects marks on paper being conveyed by a conveyance unit. The controller controls the conveyance unit to convey a confirmation sheet and then detects a position of a mark on the confirmation sheet with the sensor. The detected position corresponds to the sensor position. The controller next controls the conveyance unit and the thermal head to print a line on a sheet corresponding to the sensor position. The controller is configured to receive a corrected sensor position based on a measured distance of the printed line to an edge of the sheet and update the print reference position accordingly.

A connector coupling detector detects coupling between an external connector and a connector of the radiographic image capturing apparatus. A power supply detector detects an available state of external electric power. A controller controls a turned-on and a turned-off state of the radiographic image capturing apparatus. At a timing when the power supply detector detects a change from the available state to the unavailable state of the external electric power, the controller turns off the radiographic image capturing apparatus if the connector coupling detector detects the coupling between the external connector and the connector of the radiographic image capturing apparatus, or the controller maintains the turned-on state if the connector coupling detector detects the uncoupling between the external connector and the connector of the radiographic image capturing apparatus.

An information recording medium according to the present invention has pointer information indicating the location of the next available cluster in each spare area, and restricts the direction in which the spare area is used. Also, a defect entry indicating a defective cluster in the spare area is registered with the DFL. Abstract: Techniques are provided for controlling the reading of optical data from a master disk in a holographic replication system. Imperfections in the master disk or movement of the disk during a recording process may cause source beams to deviate from target data tracks. In some embodiments, a detector system is used to determine the focus and alignment of the source beams on the master disk, as well as the tilt and rotation of the disk with respect to the holographic replication system. The detector system may detect deviations in the intensity distribution of the reflections of the source beams and generate an error signal corresponding to focusing, tracking, tilt, and/or rotational errors. Servo-mechanical devices may actuate optical components to compensate for such errors.

Abstract: A method for detecting whether vertical deviation of an optical disc occurs is provided. First, before a pickup head is successfully focused on the optical disc, a pickup head is actuated based on an input control signal so as to generate a focus error signal with a plurality of S-curves. Then, a plurality of zero crossing points of the S-curves in the focus error signal is identified and a plurality of input control values respectively corresponding to the zero crossing points is obtained. A variation of the input control values is then calculated. Whether vertical deviation of the optical disc occurs can be determined according to the variation of the input control values.

Abstract: An optical disk apparatus according to the present invention includes: a drive selector 28 that makes a switch between a setting for sending a drive signal generated by a focus drive generation section 25 to a focus drive section 29, and a setting for sending a drive signal generated by a focus filter 27 to the focus drive section 29; and a lock-in timing detection section 21 that, upon a light amount signal detected by a light amount signal detection section exceeding a predetermined light amount level, determines that an optical spot reaches a vicinity of any of recording layers, and sends to the drive selector 28 a focus lock-in timing instruction for switching to the setting for sending the drive signal generated by the focus filter 27 to the focus drive section 29. Such configuration provides an optical disk apparatus allowing a stable focus lock in operation to be performed without using a layer determination signal when locking a focus into a recording layer of an optical disk.

Abstract: Various embodiments of the present invention provide systems, methods and media formats for processing user data derived from a storage medium. As an example, a system is described that includes a storage medium with a series of data. The series of data includes a servo data and a user data region. The user data region includes a first synchronization pattern and a second synchronization pattern located a distance from the first synchronization pattern. A storage buffer is provided that is operable to receive at least a portion of the series of data. A retiming circuit calculates an initial phase offset and frequency offset for a defined bit within the storage buffer using a first location of the first synchronization pattern and a second location of the second synchronization pattern. An error correction loop circuit re-samples the series of data from the storage buffer based at least in part on the initial phase offset and a frequency offset.

Abstract: A spherical aberration compensation method is provided. A first thickness of a cover layer at a first radius position of an optical disc is measured. A second thickness of the cover layer at a second radius position of the optical disc is measured. A spherical aberration calibration is performed at a third radius position of the optical disc to obtain an optimal spherical aberration compensation value. According to the first and second radius positions, the first and second thicknesses, and the optimal spherical aberration compensation value at the third radius position, a spherical aberration compensation formula is acquired. Afterwards, an updated spherical aberration compensation value is calculated by the spherical aberration compensation formula according to a fourth radius position where an optical pickup head of the optical disc drive is located. The updated spherical aberration compensation value is inputted into a spherical aberration compensator of the optical disc drive.
