Walsh Functions Patents (Class 370/209)
  • Patent number: 8750089
Abstract: A method and system for iterative discrete Fourier transform (DFT) based channel estimation using minimum mean square error (MMSE) techniques are presented. Aspects of the method and system include a procedure for computing channel estimates in both the time domain and frequency domain (or mixed domain) using an iterative DFT method based on MMSE techniques. One aspect of the method and system may achieve low computational complexity and produce more accurate channel estimate values in low signal to noise ratio (SNR) regimes in comparison to conventional DFT-based channel estimation methods, which utilize least squares (LS) techniques. The method and system disclosed herein may be practiced in connection with a wide range of orthogonal frequency division multiplexing (OFDM) based systems, for example wireless local area networks (WLAN, for example IEEE 802.11 WLAN systems), and LTE systems.

Abstract: A receiver of a multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) system performs QR decomposition of the channel matrix to enable detection of a transmitted vector in a layered manner. In each layer, a sub-vector of the transmitted vector is estimated. A reactive tabu search is performed if an estimated symbol differs from a nearest symbol in the alphabet by a predetermined value. The receiver may order the entries of the channel matrix prior to QR decomposition to enable estimation in an optimum order. In another embodiment, a receiver performs multiple reactive tabu searches to estimate a transmitted vector. The receiver employs a fixed threshold or a variable threshold for a cost function used in the multiple reactive tabu searches depending on whether the MIMO system is under-determined or not. The techniques enable low bit-error rate (BER) performance in MIMO systems with large number of antennas and when higher-order modulation techniques are used.

During even-numbered transmission attempts, a signal {hacek over (s)} that is different from but represents the same information as s is sent. By alternating between two different signals during retransmission, diversity gain is introduced. Information bearing signals s and {hacek over (s)} may also be subjected to precoding before transmission. The result of precoding is a channel that effectively changes with time. A receiver that operates using this retransmission scheme may use the information from some or all of the transmission attempts. Abstract: A system for wireless data transmission that uses a channel bandwidth, channel separation, and radio frequency power spectrum which is compatible with existing deployments of wireless voice services. The transmitted waveforms are thus compatible with existing cellular networks. However, the time domain digital coding, modulation, and power control schemes are optimized for data transmission. Existing cellular network sites can thus be used to provide a high speed service optimized for wireless data traffic without the need for new radio frequency planning, and without interfering with existing voice service deployments.

Abstract: Determining a frequency offset of a received signal utilizing two or more multipath components of the received signal is provided herein. By way of example, the received signal can be correlated with a synchronization sequence in a time domain or a frequency domain, resulting in separation of the two or more multipath components of the received signal. Analysis of at least one of the multipath components can provide a frequency offset of the received signal. Furthermore, by analyzing the multipath components, estimation of the frequency offset can be improved as compared with single-signal analysis techniques.

  • Patent number: 8451791
Abstract: A mobile communication system network node (NN) that serves user equipments (UEs) has fewer orthogonal reference signals (RSs) than a maximum number of UE antenna ports (APs) that can be served by the NN. A channel quality of a channel between the AP and the network node is ascertained for each of the APs. Whenever a number of APs of UEs served by the NN exceeds the number of RSs, all RSs are allocated to a subset of all of the APs by means of an allocation process such that: each RS is allocated to only one of the APs; each AP has no more than one RS allocated to it; and allocation decisions are a function of the channel qualities of the respective APs such that the higher the channel quality, the higher priority the corresponding AP is given as a candidate for receiving an RS allocation.

Abstract: In one aspect of a multiple-access OFDM-CDMA system, the data spreading is performed in the frequency domain by spreading each data stream with a respective spreading code selected from a set of available spreading codes. To support multiple access, system resources may be allocated and de-allocated to users (e.g., spreading codes may be assigned to users as needed, and transmit power may be allocated to users). Variable rate data for each user may be supported via a combination of spreading adjustment and transmit power scaling. Interference control techniques are also provided to improve system performance via power control of the downlink and/or uplink transmissions to achieve the desired level of performance while minimizing interference. A pilot may be transmitted by each transmitter unit to assist the receiver units perform acquisition, timing synchronization, carrier recovery, handoff, channel estimation, coherent data demodulation, and so on.

Abstract: Messages transmitted between a receiver and a transmitter are used to maximize a communication data rate. In particular, a multicarrier modulation system uses messages that are sent from the receiver to the transmitter to exchange one or more sets of optimized communication parameters. The transmitter then stores these communication parameters and when transmitting to that particular receiver, the transmitter utilizes the stored parameters in an effort to maximize the data rate to that receiver. Likewise, when the receiver receives packets from that particular transmitter, the receiver can utilize the stored communication parameters for reception.

  • Patent number: 8385296
Abstract: A multi-carrier CDMA transfer device using block-based partial-carrier spreading uses block-based partial-carrier spreading in the multi-cell environment to be applied to MC-CDMA models (FH-MC/CDMA TDD) that are strong against multi-path fading. A transmitter of the transfer device spreads carriers per block in the frequency domain by using the block-based partial-carrier spreading, and a receiver despreads received signals by using the block-based partial-carrier and restore original data. Optionally, an array antenna having a plurality of antenna elements is applied to the transmitter and the receiver, and weights are adaptively applied depending on the channel quality when transmitting and receiving signals through the antenna elements. Therefore, frequency diversity is obtainable and inter-cell interference and inter-code interference is optimized in the MC-CDMA method. Also, changes of frequency hopping reduce temporal variations of channels and prevent a high SN ratio.
