Abstract: A method and system for analyzing continuous bit segments taken from a general data channel and classifying the sampled data by type, such as: voice, audio or data. B contiguous bits are converted to plus and minus deltas. The B-replaced values are then padded with B contiguous zeroes and the Fourier Transform of the padded sequence is computed. A power spectral density is derived from the Fourier Transform. In addition to the Fourier Transform, compression and entropy algorithms are performed on strings of bits within the message. The first B terms of the power spectral density and the results of the compression and entropy algorithms are used to differentiate and classify the data types, based on the premise that the combination of power spectral density, compression and entropy results yields parameters indicative of distinct types of data messages.

  • Patent number: 7653250
Abstract: Some embodiments provide a method for adjusting a video sampling rate during an video encoding operation. The method receives a metric that quantifies the usage of a computer that performs the video encoding operation. The method computes an adjustment factor based on the metric. In some embodiments the metric is a system idle time. The method defines the video sampling rate based on the adjustment factor. Some embodiments compute the adjustment factor by performing a non-linear operation based on the metric. In some embodiments, the non-linear operation includes performing an integral operation based on the metric. In some embodiments, the non-linear operation includes performing a derivative operation based on the metric. Some embodiments perform more than one operation to compute the adjustment factor. In some embodiments, each operation is assigned a weight.

  • Patent number: 7573868
Abstract: Audio and video frames are synchronized by hashing an audio frame at a sender and combining the resultant hash value with the video frame. The audio frame is transmitted over an audio network, such as a telephone network, and the video frame is transmitted over a digital network, such as an intranet. The audio frame may be combined with additional audio signals from an audio bridge. The receiver receives the audio signal from the audio bridge and performs the same hash function on the mixed signal as was performed on the original signal. The receiver correlates the hash value on the mixed signal with the hash value included with the video frame (wherein the video frame is one of several video frames buffered by the receiver). The receiver can thus identify the video frame that corresponds to the audio frame and render them simultaneously.

  • Patent number: 7561538
Abstract: Speech telephones are incorporated in a LAN, and, for example, when a voice telephone 5 communicates with another voice telephone 8, call control is performed through exchange of information between a PC 1 and a PC 4, juxtaposed with the voice telephones, respectively, via a LAN hub 10, a LAN switching unit 50, and a LAN hub 20. Speech data of the respective telephones 5, and 8 are packetized in the data block of a MAC frame by concentrators 30, and 40 for voice telephones, respectively, and relayed to LAN-SW interfaces 30a, and 40a. Frames having a function of absorbing fluctuation are applied to the data block of the interfaces 30a and 40a. Respective voice data packetized according to the MAC address of the MAC frame are delivered to the voice telephones 5, and 8, respectively, via the LAN switching unit 50, and the concentrators 30, and 40 for voice telephones.

  • Patent number: 7543036
Abstract: A method for controlling distribution of network communications (messages). An incoming message either carries priority information, or is assigned priority information based on a shared characteristic with other messages. The priority information is used to determine how and/or when to deliver the message, e.g. by delaying the message for a fixed time. Preferences for receipt of messages by priority level may be communication to upstream hosts along a network path. Accordingly, an intermediary host may reject and/or delay messages that the intended recipient does not wish to receive. This pushes the burden of low-priority messages back to the sender, thereby reducing or eliminating burdens on network/system resources of the recipient and/or intermediaries between the recipient and the sender. Accordingly, it can “squelch” spam messages at or close to their source. Trusted senders complying with prescribed practices may include priority information allowing for delivery of their messages with higher priority.

  • Patent number: 7499707
Abstract: In FDMA communications between two or more primary radios (41, 42; 141, 142), use is made of a quiescent period in the primary communication. The quiescent period is used by secondary radios (43, 44; 143, 144) to communicate with each other. The quiescent period may be a transmit interrupt (TI) frame, normally provided in a DIIS protocol in order to permit return signaling from a called radio (43, 44). The secondary radios (43, 44) may signal to each other during the TI frame. Alternatively, the quiescent period may be a gap in channel activity, in which case regulated access telegrams (96) are transmitted by either a calling primary device (141), or a “last to call” primary device (141), or a base station (141), the regulated access telegrams determining a reservation window period during which secondary devices (143, 144) may signal to one another.

  • Patent number: 7492731
Abstract: Method for dynamically optimizing bandwidth allocation in a variable bitrate conference environment. Conference means with two or more outputs are provided, where each one can output data at different rates, in order to support two or more endpoints which may have different media rates. Two or more endpoints are connected to these conference means for participating in the conference. Whenever more than one video rate is used by participants during the conference, each set of output rates is selected from all possible combinations of output rates in the conference means, wherein the lowest output rate in each selected set is the entry rate of the endpoint joining the conference at the lowest rate. A Quality Drop Coefficient (QDC) for each endpoint that joins the conference is determined for each selected set, wherein the QDC is computed according to the endpoint entry rate and the highest rate, among the output rates of each selected set, that is lower or equal to said endpoints' entry rate.

  • Patent number: 7483400
Abstract: The invention relates to a method for managing a packet switched, centralized conference call between a plurality of terminals 13. In order to enable an enhancement of the user comfort, it is proposed that the method comprises at a conference call server 12 receiving data packets from all terminals 13. Based on these data packets, then at least one terminal 13 currently providing voice data is determined. In a next step, the data received in the data packets is mixed, and the mixed data is inserted into new data packets together with at least one identifier associated to one of the terminals 13 which were determined to provide voice data, such that the at least one identifier can be distinguished from any other information in the data packets. Finally, the new data packets are transmitted to terminals 13 participating in the conference call. The invention relates equally to a corresponding server and to a corresponding terminal.
